Yeah they weren't trying to fight their way out. Grant only kills the one guard because they were spotted. I agree that he should have picked up the rifle as a last resort, but it isn't inconceivable that they wouldn't want to draw any attention.
Reading is good. It improves your vocabulary, expands your imagination and provides endless amounts of information.
Far cry is partly action movie inspired and this is one of those movie moments that always happens. Any time a villain is in the same room with a captured hero you could ask why doesn't he just shoot him.
