TBH, if I could port the driving mechanics of FC3 to FC2, I wouldn't touch FC3.

imo, FC3 falls in the middle of what you can call "slippery" and "static"...

Driving, hunting, some of the weapons, the takedowns, etc.

I do like some of FC3's innovations, but FC2 was the superior game.

^yeah but it was hardcore so casual gamers don;t like it.

no fast travel
very hard due to an error in enemy respawning
weapons degrade
the occasional malaria inconvenience
no pausing for maps
and i miss the reputation system.

even the "platforming" (gliding?) was better. there were only like 20 diamonds per map yet finding them was much harder because they didn't show on your map.

FC2 was one of those games where you got that feeling of satisfaction for overcoming something challenging (like dark souls). FC3 is an easy game where anyone can find everything in very easily. sure there's more items in terms of numbers, but it is much easier.

i remember missions where just getting to a save after finishing a mission was hard, and then completing the mission and getting home from that checkpoint was trial and error.

Well in far cry 3 you can now turn off loot, relics, letters, etc...

So you can make it more challenging by turning off everything under options...

I have only inverted, vibration and grenades turned on.

And its more fun, plus on warrior mode.

no fast travel

You could take a bus for fast travel. Not quite as quick as FC3's menu fast travel, but it didn't take that long to get where you were going.

very hard due to an error in enemy respawning

Depended on your difficulty level. On normal, you could just drive past most checkpoints.

weapons degrade

Made for awesome, tense firefights. It was absolutely insane to have a weapon jam and then switch to your sidearm, realizing you were screwed, madly shooting some propane canisters, setting off a fire and a chain reaction blowing some barrels, and just barely making it out alive.

I loved playing on the maximum difficulty, because you really had to weigh your options.

the occasional malaria inconvenience

That was annoying, I agree.

no pausing for maps

I loved that map system. It made driving so much easier.

I also appreciated that the enemies said a lot more than "Should've used a rubba!" Also, if you injured an enemy, his friends would come to help them. The AI just was a lot, lot better.

^i will never forget the first time i walked into town and all the guys were scared of me lol. and then in firefights they start to run away after you kill their buddies. that was badass.

Yeah the reputation in Far cry 2 was badass.

I remember near the end of the game the enemies were like "OH **** ITS HIM ISN'T IT, WE ARE ****ED."

weapons degrade

That was a cool feature, but it was freaking annoying that the gun would ONLY jam if an enemy was shooting at you. It was near impossible for it to jam or break when no enemies were around.

Far Cry 2 was great, no doubt, but I found the story kind of bland and pointless near the end and the controls were clunky at best. FC3 has by far one of the smoothest registering FPS controls I've seen.

And I wouldn't say FC2 was 'hardcore' in comparison to 3. It was moderately harder but not significantly so. The bus stops and safe houses were just short jogs/drives from most places.

I did enjoy FC2's map and diamond system. A little sad that didn't come back.

The AI seems about the same to me. Sure, FC3 doesn't have the AI help their teamates, but they do actually search for your general area when they see a bullet fly past them instead of just running around like chickens.
