Hey Friends! In a time where games are slapped together haphazardly and pushed out to make a quick buck on the unsuspecting public (Aliens: Colonial Marines, Dead Island, Mass Effect 3, etc) I want to know if this game would be worth every penny. I have played Far Cry 2 in the past, but I just couldn't get into it, if that makes sense. I'm not big on the whole FPS aspect of a game, as I prefer the option to switch back and forth between the two perspectives, with Elder Scrolls being my favorite series. I have heard that this was a good game, but I just can't rely on that principal. I need some pros and cons, as no game is perfect. I also hear this game takes place in the tropics of Costa Rica, and with most of my family living in Puerto Rico (I also hold a dual citizenship) I think it would be great to be able to explore, unrestricted, the deep jungles of this country. So tell me, what are the pros and cons to this game and in addition, would it be a smart purchase? Thanks in advance! --- -Cartoons are people, too -Not changing this signature until A-Rod treats me to a nice lobster dinner.
samantha_sneez I have played Far Cry 2 in the past, but I just couldn't get into it I also couldn't quite get into Far Cry 2. I played the first one all the way through but something about the 2nd one that didn't sit well with me and I never finished it. This one on the other hand I've put many hours into and it still holds my interest. I'm not big on the whole FPS aspect of a game, as I prefer the option to switch back and forth between the two perspectives, with Elder Scrolls being my favorite series This game may not be for you then, as you can't switch between first and third person views, it's first person all the time. While it has a lot of side quests, exploration, and open world play à la The Elder Scrolls it plays very little like it. On the other hand Elder Scrolls is also my favorite series and I get a lot of enjoyment from this game. Just don't buy it thinking "it's Skyrim with guns" as has been advertised. I also hear this game takes place in the tropics of Costa Rica Because the game takes place on a collection of islands, even with its tropical settings, (jungles, mountains, and coastal areas) I think it's unlikely it's based on Costa Rica. Also, without spoiling too much, one of the side quests have you collecting things from locations/people that would be most likely from islands in the Pacific Ocean. That being said, the flora and fauna fit pretty nicely with Costa Rica. So if that is a major selling point you may want to take it into consideration. But I also think that this is one of the best shooter games I've played in awhile. It has a great (albeit strange) story line, great open world play, and enough quests to keep you busy for quite some time. This game is also, at its heart, a FPS not a RPG. So keep that in mind while contemplating a purchase, you may want to rent it first to try it out. Pros: Great open world play, exploration, some weapon customization, decent crafting options, beautiful jungle setting, and some RPG elements. Cons: Can't fly a helicopter or airplane (some methods of flight are available later in the game), can't really role-play, and once the main quest and side quests are done there isn't much to do (although a patch is supposed to make it so you can retake outposts). Also good luck with the A-Rod dinner thing. Edit: holy s*** wall of text, my apologies. --- -
There is no date yet for the patch. But when it goes live replayabilty is going to really really good. Resetting outposts and side quests. A higher difficulty along with more aggressive wildlife. link below. http://www.gamespot.com/news/far-cry-3-patch-brings-master-difficulty-and-outpost-resetting-6404085
Firstly this game cannot be compared to skyrim its not even close to being on the same level. As for exploring the jungles TBH its just generic jungle anywhere you go it seems to look the same but there are some nice views. Although again these are nothing on some of the views in skyrim. In skyrim I think I could pick a random spot on the map for your character to spawn and you would know exactly where you were in this game you could be anywhere. This is a good game clearing the outposts etc is good fun but the story is really weak and spoilt the game or me a bit but the rest of the game is fun. The story feels like what I imagine an acid trip to feel like. Its all a bit weird I would have prefered the story to be more realistic. There are a lot of missions which seem to involve the character being on some kind of trip. I see you mentioned dead island I would say dead island has much more depth than this game I think I have put about 25 hours into both. The side quests in Dead island seemed to be a lot better in Far cry there are 4 side quests go hunt some type of animal with a set weapon, go and kill a bandit leader , use a quad to do a medic drop and finally the trials of the rycat. This game annoys me as its a few bad design choices away from being an EPIC game. I dont know if I would recomend this game or not. For the first 5 hours I thought the game was awsome and could not get enough. I did some of the early story missions and some exploring. 5 - 10 hours still OK but getting a little repetative but still fun doing the outposts and opening up the island. Done all of the hunting to get the extra storage. Not really touched main story. 10 - 15 hours been round most of the first island done all outposts and a number of the side quests still having fun but its becoming a grind I have done arround 20 outposts all of which are pretty much the same. 15 - 20 hours Starting to get bored as I have completed most of the first island so I start the story this is where it all starts to go wrong. Some of the missions are just stuipid and pointless. the seem to involve drink some random potion go on a wild trip and kill some stuff. 20 - 25 hours Still continuing with the story I have just done the stupid mission where you drink some potion and end up fighting a large devil in a dream world. I hated this mission but thought maybe thats the end of the stupid trippy missions so I carried on not I am in some dream world where I am on a path trying to shoot Vass I turned the game off at this point and have not touched it since. I would say its worth it if you find it cheap but no way worth the full price.
This is the best sandbox FPS on the 360. Buy it. The graphics are way better than Skyrim. In Skyrim everyone was wearing burlap and loaves of bread. Buy Skyrim for long ass quests, dragons and crap graphics (Long lIve OblIvIon). Buy Farcry for single player mayhem and just fun. Ultimately though....you have to decide and everyone on here is polarized to one end or the other. I'm a huge fan of this game. They are consistently adding patches and will be adding new dlc (supposedly). Rent it if you're undecided and you will buy it.
I'm not an FPS fan at all, but I love this game. Because of the mysterious tropical island sandbox setting. And the shooting has aim assist, like RDR, which is a must for me. I think of it more like an adventure game.
I haven't played any Far Cry game before but found this to be very enjoyable. (I have no basis for comparison in the series) Stand Alone, it's great! My biggest Con with the game is it seems to take all game to become a MAXED OUT BADASS and then it's over. Now, they are talking about releasing a patch that will reset the enemy outposts, but until then, just know as soon as you clear the map, that's pretty much it for bad guys to kill. The other Con I had, was that this is hands-down the FASTEST 1000/1000 I've ever done. Just over a week and a day and I had finished all the achievements. MP is fun while it lasts, but it's nothing special. I finished it in one sitting and never looked back. (I should note that i'm a Single Player, and MP rarely keeps my interest past 'cheevo hunting) But do not let this sway you. The game is a blast and there's a lot of fun to be had. It just seems like it ended just as it was getting awesome. I'm currently working on another game but I do plan on doing a 2nd run of FC3 to pick the ***POTENTIAL SPOILERS**** alternate ending. --- ~I was stomping goombas and saving princesses long before most of you were born.

This game isn't as bad as Aliens, but it is flawed, and in some cases very much so. That doesn't mean you can't have a lot of fun. The story and side missions are awful. Next to no characters are even likable. The plot is definitely one of the worst in recent times. The fun comes through exploring the jungle, executing stealth effectively, hunting animals, and so on. The weapons in the game are all solid. It's not like Far Cry 2 where some weapons that should have been great are actually duds. Get a SPAS-12 and it acts just like you'd expect it to. Some people say the stealth system holds your hand too much, but I enjoy it anyway. Enemies are pretty smart so you can't slack off and expect to be a lazy sniper and just camp. As for this: From: nothingbeast | #007 My biggest Con with the game is it seems to take all game to become a MAXED OUT BADASS and then it's over. That's not necessarily true, it just depends on how you play the game. Just by doing story missions and searching for collectibles, you can amass as much experience as needed without ever taking over a single outpost, leaving them all for the end if you want. Which I kind of recommend doing, until we get the next patch. It is pretty cool to go from a weak character to suddenly being able to sweep through an entire outpost using nothing but a machete. I think the gameplay is good enough to support multiple playthroughs. If the story and side missions had been better, this could have been a terrific game. I also kind of recommend getting the DLC bundle, as the side missions in that are actually fun and well done. --- http://i.imgur.com/VKZH3.jpg http://i.imgur.com/tMlSo.jpg http://i.imgur.com/OXGN0.gif http://gifsoup.com/view5/3907877/otw-o.gif

I just find things like this to be boring distractions when I'm more interested in the story. On my next run I'll probably pay more attention to them. I just think item finding is a cheap way at getting extra hours out of a game. I tend to skip them over until I go 'cheevo hunting after I finish at least one run of the story mode. --- ~I was stomping goombas and saving princesses long before most of you were born.
