Slime finding/farming tips topic

i thought it might be an idea to consolidate all the slime topics into one easy to use guide

first stop is to find a slime chunk to do this there are a number of methods the one i'd recommend if you used a named seed is this little application

http://extension.ws/minecraft/slimes.html

type in your seed name and all the green chunks shown are slime chunks if you highlight one it'll give you the coordinates for two corners of the chunk

so for example if you are given the coordinates -16,-64 to 0,-48 that means you have one corner at X-16 Z-64 and another at X0 Z-48 simple

if you have a random seed then im afraid you need to get to digging and make a 3 high cave with the floor at Y13 and keep going till you find slimes.

once you've found slimes you need to build a slime farm. (make sure you find at least one slime before building a farm)

before constructing your slime farm you need to know a little about slime spawning conditions and behaviour.

Slimes can spawn on peaceful on the 360

they cannot spawn on liquids

they can spawn in a light level above 7

they can only spawn below Y16 (in 1.6.6 beta when we get 1.7.3 beta they spawn as high as Y40)

3 high rooms are the lowest required for big slime spawns

they can only spawn in a slime chunk.

they cannot swim

they will follow you even if you go off a cliff

so what does this mean? well it means that you can prevent other mobs spawning to increase slime spawn rates by lighting up your farm. and having a 3 high space on each spawn floor

now to the design of the farm. there are many methods which you can look into via youtube but the method i'll describe is one that i designed and is incredibly simple.

1) start with a 16 X 16 spawning pad 3 blocks up from bedrock (Y 4 or 5) with 3 walls on the immediate sides of chunk with a 3
high ceiling

2) in these walls carve out one block on the 2nd row up from the spawn floor every two horizontal blocks then place a torch in each of the holes you've made.

3) in the roof again carve one block holes out 2 blocks apart from every other hole then fill with torches

your roof will appear like this when you look up at it B = block T = torch

BBTBBTBBTBB
BBBBBBBBBBB
BBBBBBBBBBB
BBTBBTBBTBB

4) go two blocks up from the
previous floors highest air space then using that as the floor for your second spawn pad repeat steps 1) to 3)

5) dig the entire wall of the 4th side of your slime chunk back on the bottom floor so the "new" wall is 26 blocks away from the edge of the slime chunk

6) one block away from the edge of the slime chunk dig a 3 deep pit that is 16 by 4 blocks (the 16 must folllow the slime chunk edge) then fill with water. this is your drowning trap as slimes can't swim.

7) for the top floor you need to dig the wall back and remove the roof over the pool so the slime can drop through to the drowning pool

8) make sure you have a one block wide walkway around the pool and the drop hole to get onto your spawning pads

9) make a ladder to get too your walkway onto the top spawn floor

10) walk over to the back wall of your lower floor
and stand there to wait for a slime spawn (it can take a while).

11) Once you get a slime spawn walk out onto the spawn pad and guide it towards the pool. After its fallen in let it drown voila you have slime balls

if you're struggling with the farm message me online i'll show you my slime farm my GT is xMDMA PAINx

Two things. Slimes may spawn on peaceful (although I've never seen it happen and the wiki seems to go back and forth on this issue), but it is very rare and you will have a much higher output off peaceful.

And I thought slimes spawned at y40 in the 1.9 update.

^ last i heard it was Y 40 in 1.7.3 however you may well be right either currenbtly its Y 16

i can confirm that on the 360 version slimes can spawn on peaceful BUT i've only seen tiny and small slimes

for big slimes its easy and up

OP is incorrect when it says big slimes only spawn in rooms 3 high. My slime farming area is 2 high and I've literally seen big slimes spawn in front of me. They then proceed to take damage until a few seconds later they die and split into 4 medium slimes. So really it makes it even easier since you don't have to take down the big ones

I just started trying to find slimes. So to be clear, I'm at dead bedrock Y5. This is where slimes can spawn? And I only need to go three blocks high for a ceiling?

I made me do it..... wait.

ok so i just found a slime chunk using the Slime Finder tool you posted; i dug down to bedrock, y-6, and dug out a 3block tall cave covering the entire 16x16 chunk, it's well lit. then i dug some off shoot hallways stretching back 25 blocks so i could meet the distance requirement for them to spawn. i dug several of these hallways and connected them so that i could walk along the back of the hallways and look down them into the cave. i've been hanging out back in there for about 30 minutes now and nothing has spawned....is this normal? i can hear a crap ton of mobs in a cavern that must be close by...would the fact that there are hostile mobs close by have any effect on the spawn rate of the slimes in my cave?

yes go find the cave then light it up to prevent them spawning

once you've done that keep waiting it can take between 5 mins and 2 hours
