Why the hell is this called "Halo"?

I'ts a continuation of the story and Halo rings are still a big part of tye story even if you're not on one in every game. UNSC found the covenant planet from coordinates found on a halo ring. Halo rings play a part in the story of every game.

Halo 1, 2, and 3 all had Halos.

That's the thing, if they started changing the brand name to fit the story, it would screw with sales because Halo is a trademark icon itself.
