What happened to all the people getting on Halo and just hanging out?

Back in the days of Halo 3 that's what people did, they hopped on Halo, with a mic, and chilled and talked. You could be in a room with almost everyone talking. Yeah some were young kids, but for the most part they were just cool people wanting to hangout, smoke some weed, kill some people, and socialize. Now it's like you rarely find a person with a mic, let alone anyone you'd want to talk to.

Reach happened. Halo became less social and more about getting those unlocks.

I've been playing all week and I've heard maybe 4 or 5 words spoken the whole time, and I'm level 25. It's lame.

Parties killed game chat.

Clarification: Why would I deal with all the crap that you have to deal with in game chat, if you can just be in a party and hear the people on your team?

Those are nothing new. What surprises me is that it's rare nowadays to even find a game that has both teams in party chat. It seems like everyone nowadays is leaving their mics off, even the Kinect players that still have the icon show up (although that's a good thing in this case).

Plenty of that in CoD still. It's become the social experience Halo used to be. I still prefer Battlefield over either of them, but for a team-based game, no one uses their mic in that one either.
