Phantom Guns in "Shoot Out in Valhalla"

Occasionally I will run into "phantom guns" when I play chapter 4 in ep. 3 of spartan ops. When they show up, there's no one holding these guns. They're not cloaked enemies, because when i point my rifle towards them, only the gun itself shows up in red. Nothing picks up in the area surrounding the phantom guns, and they're somewhat difficult to kill because the hit box is so small.

Any idea what this is? Is this a glitch, or is this a mod of some sort? Or is this perhaps a subtle troll on 343's part?

I had the same issue on the Complex Mission of this week's Spartan Ops, but I have no idea why or what caused it.
By the Nine, did that really just happen?

I think it's a grunt on the gun. There were some moments in campaign where a grunt would be on one of the little turrets and I couldn't shoot them from a distance. The grunt was barely bigger than the turret so all of my bullets would hit the turret itself and not the grunt. I don't remember that happening in any other halo.

They are "phantoms" just the characters that are holding them are really really small for some reason. Either a glitch or an Easter egg they put in for laughs.
If you watch "Doctor Who" and play Pokemon Platinum, this will blow your mind-

No it's not turrets. I'm actually seeing weapons (most prominently storm rifles but occasionally plasma pistols and fuel rod guns). These are weapons moving by themselves; and shooting at you.

I'm curious as to why this happens myself. It only happened the once, but it was still pretty odd nonetheless

Can you kill them?

Yes you can, but it's rather difficult to do so because the hit boxes for them are so small. I find grenades work the best against them

Gets reminded of the floating ARs from Halo CE during the level where you first meet the flood.
GT: Boomer and Tank
Pretty darn confident..... I don't want to have to wait till the Microendony XBOXS 4ii comes out another 15 years later....
