Do I need a wii remote to 100% this?

I was doing challenges a while back and tried one of them called boost challenge? It said I could only use a wii remote...will that mean I can't get all the stars on my save file because I don't have a last gen accessory? If so, that's freakin' stupid

Challenges don't affect the Stars. And boost mode is a 2 player mode where one player controls Mario (or other characters) and a second player uses the gamepad to place blocks to help the character. But I'd suggest getting at least 1 Wii remote if you own a Wii U, most multiplayer games are only playable with a Wiimote and Gamepad or 2 Wiimotes
