After hearing Aonuma's announcement about how the game will focus on non-linearity and multiplayer, I'm a little worried. Not about the non-linearity though, that I like. It's the multiplayer that worries me. When he mentions that all I can remember is the multiplayer from the NSMB series, and while it is fun and enhances the gameplay, I worry it will take so much of the spotlight that it will be impossible, or incredibly difficult, to complete the game 100% without playing with others. I'm not saying I'd much rather not have multiplayer, I'm saying I'd much rather have it enhance the gameplay, but not take it to an extreme and make some things or important places impossible to get or access without others.

Then look at Phantom Hourglass and to a lesser extent Spirit tracks to realize how Zelda can have good multiplayer. Hell, there's Four Swords Adventures which is a damn fine game by itself, so I imagine it's even better with friends (because let's be real, nobody had 4 GBAs and 4 link cables).

Our mission in developing this new Zelda game for Wii U is quite plainly to rethink the conventions of Zelda.

I'm referring to things such as the player is supposed to complete dungeons in a certain order. That you are supposed to play by yourself, the things that we've come to take for granted recently.

We want to set aside these "conventions," get back to basics to create a newborn Zelda so players today can enjoy the real essence of the franchise.

Doing dungeons out of a set order is non-linearity. Not playing by yourself is likely multiplayer.

Not doing dungeons in a set order = non-linearity.

Not playing by yourself = multiplayer.

This really needs to be spelled out for you?

Four Swords Adventures had an excellent optional multiplayer, so Im not worried about that so much. I guess Im surprised that Nintendo are releasing a remake followed by a non-traditional Zelda. If its too multiplayer focussed, Id be worried it may be bound for the obscurity of FSA..
For me I hope they dont go overboard with the hand-holding in this game, it seems like the further they take the series the more they patronise you. (How many Zeldas have there been before, and NOW they tell you what it means when your health meter beeps?)

I know that, I'm saying that he never said the new game would focus on those things. Focus on implies they will be central to the game, he merely said they were moving away from the conventions.

He bullet pointed them for the whole world to see. I'm pretty sure it's safe to assume you don't list things that are NOT a focus in development.
