MooglePeru posted... Bad Overworld. 1. Nope. Not the best, but far from the worst. 2. Wrong again. 3. Nope. 4. A 100% exaggeration. Smaller overworld =/= No exploration. You sound just as bad as LLL_Deadly or whatever the **** his name is. 5. Nope. It's an improvement from the previous istallments. But I will say that using motion controls for other things like unlocking the boss door and balancing on a rope were completely unecessary. 6. Personal preferences I guess. I still remember a lot of it, and I've only done one playthrough. 7. It wasn't the best (TP probably had the best item usage in the serioes), but still better than some Zelda games. 8. Better than anything WW did with it's dungeons. Well... Tower of the Gods iirc, was better than every dungeon in SS. But I'm talking about overall.
Goombacrusher07 posted... Moogle just dislikes SS more and more everyday See, I'm not the only one that sees this. --- "So far as we can determine, peanut butter has no effect on the rotation of the earth." -The Effects of Peanut Butter on the rotation of the Earth.
1. Nope, it's the worst. Even TP's world (the game that I loathed the most) had a tiny bit of exploration. It was damn tiny, but it had it. SS has none. It feels like a level based game. And that's not how Zelda should be. Ever. 2. Zelda games always had bad storylines. This game is no exception. 3. YES. YES. YES. WE WERE ALL PROMISED A PROPER EXPLANATION OF EVERYTHING. I'M OK WITH DEMISE BUT THE ENTIRE MASTER SWORD THING WAS SO DARN DISSAPOINTING. 4. I'll define exploration. Exploration is when you go out of your way and discover new, interesting things that are rewarding you with a health upgrade, a new weapon, item, or whatnot. Since SS had all of their items contained between the levels themselves (and note that I'm using the term levels, not overworld), it has zero exploration. Exploration is what most Zelda games sans OoT, MM, FS, FSA, TP and SS have. Even those aforementioned games had quite a bit. SS had none. I'll put it on the level of FS and FSA. The level based thing killed SS for me. 5. Is an improvement, yes. But the swordplay play needs to feel more like combat instead of puzzle-solving. The other Zeldas have bad combat. This one's is bad, too, but is a little better than the rest. That little fact doesn't save it from being bad. 6. You're talking with a guy who can remember most soundtracks of games that he played. I can faithfullt hum every single Mega Man theme from the entire Classics and X series, for example. This has been the first Zelda where the music felt generic and bland. 7.The best item usage, as I've proven numerous tiems, was in ST. Of the 8 usable items in the game, only two were actually good, and those were the Beetle and the Bow. 2 of eight means the items were lame. Also the freaking harp. 8. Overall? They are bad. The only remotely challenging dungeon was the LMF. Everything else was short, and bland, and I would say generic if it weren't for the Sandship (I mean, that dungeon was genius, but the boss killed it. Like, literally) You want examples of good dungeons? The Oracles and TP nailed them. Even although TP ones were too linear for my tastes, they were the best of the 3D ones. Overall, SS dissapointed me in a lot of areas. Also, if I ever liked it before, it was just to go with the wave of anti-Zelda Cycle stuff that arose in 2011. I actually found the game un-Zelda in most of my experience. --- My Backloggery: Only fun games allowed! http://www.backloggery.com/moogleperu
Actually, Twilight Princess has lot of exploration in the way you described. The multiple sections of the overworld are chalk full of hidden holes, chests, Heart Pieces, and Golden Bugs to find. Quite a few are pretty well hidden as well. However, the rewards are a bit lackluster(massive Rupee overload). It would have been nice for there to be some optional items akin to the Ice Rod and whatnot. --- More villains need to be protagonists. BiS proves it can work. Ridley, Ganondorf, Fawful, Bowser, and Dimentio all for their own games!
Nintendoboy77 posted... You sound just as bad as LLL_Deadly or whatever the **** his name is. SS does have bad exploration. You'd have to be blinded by your bias to not see that. What's rewarding about the exploration? What incentive is there to explore the small, bland overworld? I like the game (enjoying Hero Mode), but to say SS has good exploration is just stupid. --- Wind Waker is one of the greatest games ever made. Hoping the HD Remake does it justice.
LLL_Deadly posted... Nintendoboy77 posted...You sound just as bad as LLL_Deadly or whatever the **** his name is. You don't remember having to find those small items to help upgrade your shields and gear (even though Amber you get like a million of, some of the others are a bit more rare)? You don't remember going around hitting those blocks with a skyward strike to be able to open chests in the sky? That's not exploration? I'm not saying it's the best in the series, but to say there's none is just absurd.
Nintendoboy77 posted... LLL_Deadly posted...Nintendoboy77 posted...You sound just as bad as LLL_Deadly or whatever the **** his name is. Finding the materials isn't exploration. Aside from the tumbleweed (which was because I forgot to get a Bug Net), I had enough to upgrade everything by the end of the game, and I wasn't going out of my way to look for any materials. Placing a bunch of cubes around the game with corresponding chests in the sky doesn't equal decent exploration. I didn't say the game has no exploration, I just said the game's exploration is bad. --- Wind Waker is one of the greatest games ever made. Hoping the HD Remake does it justice.

Actually, this is what I'm talking when I refer to exploration. I'll use two examples. Example 1: "So, I just entered that shiny blue portal and where the **** am i? This doesn't seems like Death Mountain at all. And why the **** am I a bunny? And a pink one, for the matter? God, this game never ceases to amaze me. Ok, new plan, let's explore and see what do we find... oh, if I drop down from here I'll reach the base of the mountain easi--- what is this, a cave on a ledge? Sounds insteresting. Hmm.... what the **** are those things? They are smiling and they. Don't. Let. Me. Pass. And what's with those Spikes? This place is freaking mysterious. I'll come back later. ... AHA! I got the hammer and I can squish the bastards now! Now, let's see, where did I see those little things... hmmm, I can't remember. Oh well, they'll appear back later. *7 dungeons later* I remember now, they were on the Dark Mountain? Yes, they were! Now let's see, freaking spikes, let's see what wonders do you.... AHA! A CHEST! And what is this? Oh my GOD, is that a totally NEW MAGICAL BADASS CANE THAT LET'S ME SNEAK ONTO THE GIRLS LOCKER? Oh wait, that's the Magic Cape. But what the hell, THIS THING IS AWSOME" Example 2 "Oh, so I need to find dungeon 8. Where the **** could it be? I've tried everything. But NO! THere's no Internet and I'm 7 years old and I conquered the First Quest, I MUST PERSEVERE. Hmmm. I've deducted that there's only one entrance per screen, so... I think I'll just bomb and burn everything... Oh, there you are, 8th entrance! Just crossing the river? You clever magnificents bastards, Nintendo!" --- My Backloggery: Only fun games allowed! http://www.backloggery.com/moogleperu
Yeah, I was really disappointed with just about everything SS had to offer. It degraded a lot of things from the series and then did a so-so job on the new things it brought to the table. Not a bad game in of itself, but the worst Zelda game I've ever played. --- Jesus Christ saves any who call and accept him. Today is better than tomorrow to get saved. You were disappointed because your expectations were those of a naïve person who wanted to replace button mashing w/ unthinking / random slashing / waggle. If you don't want simulated sword play, don't play a game w/ "sword" or "steel" in the title. --- It's not paranoia if the Random Number Generator is really out to get you.
