I haven't decided yet, I like the graphics, but I'm still obsessed the the Wii U tech demo artstyle.

Wow, I can't believe no one has made this topic before. If this hadn't happened then where would we post about the art style?

We have less to talk about then with the Skyward Swore leaked concept art. All we can discuss are graphics, Link's sex, and if that's Link or not

Or the open world gameplay stuff that Aonuma was talking about. That seemed pretty interesting.

There's plenty to talk about that has nothing to do with the art style. I made a topic about everything I observed in the footage we saw but no one seemed to notice. Link if you're curious: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/632936-the-legend-of-zelda-wii-u/69414895

I wouldn't mind talking about the art style if we actually said intelligent things about it, but all anyone can seem to say about it is "I like it ALOT" or "too cartoony why'd Aonuma bait and switch?!" No one even bothers to describe the art style aside from erroneously saying it conveniently looks like the combination of two other art styles.

But you know, maybe this is the topic where that changes. Maybe this will be an actual discussion about the style's subtleties. To that end I posit my observations.

The game is cel-shaded but more textured than WW. Flat colors (which make cel-shading more noticeable) are mostly seen on Link's character model and individual blades of grass (more on that later). Realistic geometry for the environment. Everything is bright and vibrant. Cel-shading draws a lot of contrast in the environment. Bloom is plentiful. Link's design has fairly realistic proportions but stylized features. The explosions from bomb arrows and the lasers display the cel-shading very noticeably.

The most distinctive thing I've noticed so far about the art style is the way it groups clumps of grass in the mid-distance together with one hue. I'm not sure how this will play out yet; we'll have to see more shots of the game to know exactly how this will work. It's an interesting effect though.

My overall feelings on it: I really like it. It has a lot of life to it and has very vibrant hues. It's a flexible style and I can easily see the cel-shading being used to cast some very dramatic shadows to complement the bright colors we've seen so far. My only complaint so far is that it lacks a little cohesion. The flat colors on the characters and in the fire effects contrast strongly with the smoothly textured environments. I have a feeling it will evolve before release, and I really want to see more of it in action.
