I think that if you lose in the final battle of Ocarina of Time, the game immediately switches to Link to the Past and you can play through that.

You couldn't go straight from the Game Over screen to the start of LttP.

Hundreds of years pass between the two games. The player is owed a bit of explanation, I think.

this, would have been nice if you could die and see another ending =)

This totally must happen as one easter egg in the next Ocarina remake.
