The Fortnight Challenge Journal

Hey guys. After reading a bit of the other journals in this board and the game reviews, I got motivated to do a Majora's Mask run (using OOT+MQ (GameCube) , in a Wii >_>) But I already did the game too many times, a normal run would bore me before the halfway mark. And after looking around in internet, I'm not interested in a 3-day run or a 100% speedrun, because the whole strategy is already laid out and it's just about saving every 10 minutes and training to do a specific part over and over again. So I want to see the game in a new way, do a new challenge. And I came up with that idea : The Fortnight Challenge RULES -After the initial 3-day Deku run, I have Five 72-hour cycles only. 15 Days. -No using of Inverted Time Song -No saving using the statues -No using of glitches whatsoever In a nutshell, i have five times 72 minutes to clear the game and do as much as possible. The added difficulty will be that the time will be running FAST without the safety net that is Inverted Time Song. I'm planning to start next week, and before that spend some time gathering intel and laying out a plan. And you're free to help me on that, I'm not even sure it's possible in 15 days. Any thoughts?
Fifteen days? Make it 40 days and 40 nights.
I like this idea, I hope you go ahead with it! I'd say it'd definitely be possible. A 3-day run CAN be achieved with the Inverted Song of Time. If memory serves, it makes time approximately 3 times slower. So 9 day's worth of time vs 15, it should be doable.
Interesting idea! I like it! Not using the ISoT makes it even more interesting. I'd still take a look at the 3-Day FAQ over in the MM section just to get ideas. Obviously, the best thing is to utilize that first cycle for all its worth. You don't mention heart pieces or masks, so I'm assuming you'll grab whatever you run into and little else. I think you're biggest obstacle will be the Gerudo Fortress. You can easily get two empty bottles before that, which will help. Then you can get a third from the beavers after getting the hookshot, which will make the eels a one-time trip. It might be difficult to get extra bottles when you're rushing. It might work to split your five cycles into an area each. 1st Cycle - Southern Swamp 2nd Cycle - Snowhead Mountain 3rd Cycle - Great Bay 4th Cycle - Ikana 5th Cycle - Stone Tower Temple and the Moon That could make things manageable. Although you'd want to get Epona on the 2nd cycle I should think, to maximize the amount of time you'll have for Great Bay. Hope at least some of this helps!
gameman713 posted... It might work to split your five cycles into an area each. Thanks! Yeah, I was at first expecting something like this (4 cycles for areas and one cycle for everything you don't have time to do) But I'm afraid this way, the 3rd Cycle is impossible. (Basically, you need Epona + Zora Eggs + GB Temple in 72 minutes) So after reading a bit of the 3-day playthrough solution, I will try this : 1st Cycle - Hero's Bow, Fire Arrows, Powder Keg 2nd Cycle - Epona, Garo's Mask, Zora Eggs, Song of Storms 3rd Cycle - Ice Arrows, Odolwa, Goht 4th Cycle - Mirror Shield, Ikana Castle, Gyorg 5th Cycle - Light Arrows, Twinmold, Moon The problem here might be the lack of bottles for the Zora Eggs. I might have to stop "them" with Romani.

That could work, but you can't get Epona until after Goht (you need a Powder Keg to get into Romani Ranch on the 1st Day). There's also the bottle with Dampe, but that needs the Skull Keeta mask. Doable, but that might stretch your time thin, and you're still left with only 3 bottles if you can't do Them (and Kafei and Anju would take too much time).
If memory serves... Can the game be 100%ed in three cycles (Plus tutorial.)? I know that it's the technical minimum (Like Pikmin's 6 day minimum, one day for each area, plus the tutorial.), since the sidequest with the most conflicting branches has three: Blast Mask and All Night Mask (Stopping Sakon means he never visits the Curiosity Shop, Anju and Kafei quest broken, and the All Night Mask is available on the third night.) Bottle and Couple's Mask (The letter can only be delivered to one person.) Postman's Hat (See second branch.) And, unfortunately, the Couple's Mask and All Night Mask need to be gotten in the first two cycles, as they are required to do things that can only be done earlier in a given cycle than you can obtain them. So you still need to get Epona on the first day, to either get the Hookshot or Giant's Wallet. You also lose about a whole day between the All Night Mask's quest, and Sakon's Hideout. --- *(int *)nullptr = 0;http://me.veekun.com/blog/2012/04/09/php-a-fractal-of-bad-design/

So if he doesn't get something finished within the 72 minutes per cycle, he essentially loses that much time the next cycle making up for it or has to miss it permanently. And I don't think he's trying to 100% everything. It didn't mention that in his rules. In direct answer to your question, I'm not sure it can be 100% completed in one cycle, even if you don't count the choices within the Sakon/Anju/Kafei stuff. The night lost to the All Night Mask's HP seems to make that impossible all on its own.
Indeed, I'm just trying to finish the game here. About Epona, i'm planning to get the Powder Keg in the first playthrough. You only need Fire Arrows actually. So, I started the challenge this afternoon with the Deku cycle and the first try of the First Cycle THE FIRST THREE DAYS Getting started Hit List : -Do the whole Deku main quest -Get Adult Wallet -Bank as much money as possible -Get Clock Tower Heart Piece -Get Hand in Toilet Heart Piece -Get Deku Scrub Three Day Challenge Heart Piece What happened The first part of the game is easy. You don't have a time limit so you can really take your time to pick up every rupee and cut all the grass. Keep the Deku Nuts for the Bombers. Nothing to say about the missing Fairy, really. Well, yes, now that we are in the HD era, the Greay Fairy is really creepy with the pixels everywhere. Oh well. I had great luck catching the Bombers, only one of them tried to escape. Just in case, the code is 12543. I doubt I'll need it though. I came back for Day 1 of the Deku Scrub Challenge, succeding in my first try. Did the Moon's Tear part and trade for Land Title Deed, get HEART PIECE! Traded Land Title Deed with Hand in the Toilet for HEART PIECE! Spent all of Night 1 exiting/entering in the Observatory and breaking the pots (10 rupees everytime) Spent all of Day 2 failing the Deku Scrub Challenge (I suck at Deku flying...), too bad. If I end up one Heart Piece short of a full heart, I'll be pissed. Spent all of Night 2, Day 3 and Night 3 collecting Rupees. Got the Adult Wallet. Skull Kid, Ocarina of Time, Song of Time. See ya. Checklist -Ocarina of Time -Adult Wallet -524 rupees in bank -3 hearts -2 heart pieces
