....and wholeheartedly enjoying it. The only complaints I can make right now are on balancing, which I'm hoping will be addressed before the next beta event.

Nope. Couldn't wait.

Besides, why wait for a free game?

It has been a bit, dark, has your opinion changed on GRO?

How goes the beta?

The first beta test is over, and my opinion is basically the same - the game looks and plays great, but there are still balancing issues. I've seen and been victim of people with shotguns snipe/oneshotting from the other side of a room. SMG's being more effective sniper weapons than sniper rifles (to the point that I feel it necessary to get an SMG as a Recon, which I don't want - I wanna be a sniper, dammit!).

The upgrade system needs either a way to keep old items you replace, or a way to test the weapon you made before you purchase it (right now, if you buy a weapon upgrade, what it replaces gets destroyed). I also personally feel that the store prices are a little high, or the currency rewards are a little low, but that may just be me.

Other than this, I think the game is great - all of this said, they could launch now, as is, and I'd play this game every moment I possibly could. They did end the first beta test early to work on network issues on the back end, and will have a second beta test soon. I honestly can't wait - I haven't had this much fun in an online shooter ever, and I generally like online shooters.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Ok dark, now re-read your comments but keep in the back of your mind that this is a free-to-play game that is designed around the idea that you can either play to earn game money to do those upgrades or at a low low price, come on it is only a dollar right(wink), get some instant game cash to buy the new weapons, upgrades, armor, and what not.

Yeah, free-to-play will be the next big thing if this does well on consoles.

I know that's what they want, it's just a gripe I have.

Great game, though - I know you aren't into shooters, but - since it's free - I hope you give it a shot (no pun intended).

I have been watching quite a few beta plays on youtube, and I must say, I think that game might be a bit more fun if they had access to voice communication in order to keep squad chatter up to keep people together rather than what I have been seeing.

It looks like CoD play in some matches, everyone for themselves, rather than teamwork.

There's voice chat built-in. A lot of people don't use it.

The matches that look like CoD is just noobs who don't know they're supposed to be capping or defending a point. There aren't any deathmatch-style game modes, yet some people either don't realize it, or don't care.

There are two game modes - domination and defense. In Domination, there are 5 control points. Everyone starts by trying for the middle point, and a winner is determined by who controls the most points. My favorite, though, is Defense. There are three control points, but only two are accessible. One team tries to take them from the other team. If the attacking team takes both points before the time runs out, it unlocks the third. If the attacking team takes THIS one, too, they win. However, if the defending team has even one at the end of time, the defending team wins.
