I think a 40-45 character roster would be perfect.

They could drop:

-Lucas
-Ike
-Lucario
-Olimar
-Wolf
-Toon Link

and replace them with:

-another Mother character
-a new Fire Emblem character
-a 6th gen Pokemon
-Alph, Brittany or Charlie from Pikmin 3
-no more Star Fox characters
-no more Zelda characters

That leaves 7-12 slots open for more newcomers, which seems optimal to me. I think increasing the roster size (even if only by 4-9 slots) would make the game feel a lot more fresh. Realistically, I'd be happy with 40 in total. 45 is wishful thinking, more or less. Thoughts?

It's probably going to have a size of just 4 more characters than SSBB TBH.

Personally I'd be upset if they removed anyone with a unique, non-clone moveset.

Your choices are reasonable but don't you think it'd be better if no unique movesets were eliminated?

I agree with you for the most part, but I think Krystal should replace Wolf, and Olimar shouldn't be replaced. Also, ROB and Pokemon Trainer should be cut as well.

Which would be a total of 39, which is fine. If they go that way, though, I certainly hope that they weed out some of the unnecessary clones (Lucas, Wolf) and give Ganondorf and Falco new movesets.

No way they'll drop Olimar, especially with Pikmin 3.

You have a really good point. I just feel like Ike and Lucario should be replaced with newer characters from their respective series.

I was thinking of 45 not including transformations.

Wasnt it in the SSE that Jigglypuff, Wolf and Toon link were just found at the end with no story interaction? And Sonic was so late into the SSE because he was developed late? Makes me think the first three were the same and the last added. I wonder if that could effect their return status.

Olimar's staying.

He IS Pikmin. I don't care about any of the new captains in 3. Olimar is the series to me. and yes, he is in Pikmin 3.

So far, we haven't even seen Olimar in Pikmin 3. I would think that they'd replace him with one of the heroes from that game to advertise it a bit more. I dunno, maybe I'm off base.
