How much data can a 3DS cartridge hold?

8gig is more than enough for almost every modern current gen console game.

I don't know what he's complaining about tbh.

All right, Brawl maxed out 8 GB and the roster wasn't even half the data. So, just make the 3DS focus on the smaller modes. Problem solved.

Just for comparison:

3DS cartridges can range from 4 - 8 GBs

Wii U Optical disc: 25 GBs (single layer) Can be 50 gbs if double layered.

So? 8GBs is more than enough to have 45 characters, 45 stages and great single player mode without those cutscenes.

As others have said 8GB. Brawl was only 5GB and most of that space was taken up by the CG cutscenes.

It's for comparison purposes. I don't think we'll get that many stages to begin with but yes I believe it's possible.

Some one correct me if I'm wrong, but what really takes up space in a game disc are sound files, correct?

Cool beans. Characters aren't the only thing that take up data.

I was rereading Sakurai's quote and noticed that he actually didn't say anything about the amount of space a 3DS cartridge could handle. Perhaps the issue is some other limitation. We've already had reports of difficulty with "characters that incorporate more than one fighter."

Maybe there's some other issue the 3DS has outside of size that could potentially hinder the roster.

I brought this up in another topic, but eh.
The masterpieces in Brawl are the full games, the time limits are the only things that limit us. With outside help and removing the time limit, it's possible to play the entire game. But think about that for a second.

7 NES games. (6 if not counting Japan-only)
5 SNES games (4 if not counting Japan-only)
2 N64 games

NES doesn't hold much weight, but SNES is a bit more than that. Then you have N64 games, especially OOT which is rather large!

If you're not a huhligan, as much data as you want.
If you're a huhligan, none. You don't deserve data, huhligan.
