PSA: Any roster that doesn't include a retro rep, is not a realistic roster.

ITT: A user who literally ignores numerous games released on numerous platforms before AND after Melee that feature Mr. Game & Watch prominently solely because of a made-up reason that remakes don't count.

Can you please use an argument that doesn't fall apart the moment someone says "Sakurai never said that"?

Explain the difference:

Mr. Game & Watch has games released before his first appearance in Smash, but the reason he is in Smash is for his earliest games.
Mega Man has games released before his first appearance in Smash, but the reason he is in Smash is for his earliest games.
Pac-Man has games released before his first appearance in Smash, but the reason he is in Smash is for his earliest games.

The literal only reason why Pac-Man is in is because of retro games. If Pac-Man didn't have any games past 1984, he'd be in.

Ditch Mr. G&W. Or R.O.B.

It's more than plausible to expect a Pit style irrevelant retro which is the main focus of Sakurai and always highly probable.

Wish I specified it in the OP. Reviving a character's classical style isn't the thing here. It's about taking an irrelevant character and making him relevant again. Reviving a character's old self is different. Pac-Man is not what Pit was in Brawl, or what Ice Climbers were in Melee. Can be considered retro, but doesn't have the surprise effect that Pit had. We're still missing a ''who is he?'' kind of character.

Oh, my bad. I didn't notice you changing the rules of the argument in response to how bad your side of it is.

ITT, you are making a strict, arbitrary, fake definition of what a retro rep can be. All you've shown is a quote where Sakurai says he likes to use retro reps to reintroduce characters. Are you saying that you know that Sakurai didn't design Pac-Man and Mega Man to reintroduce the retro incarnations of these characters? At what point are you designated the only human on Earth who is able to declare your interpretation of Sakurai's words to be the only valid one?

The real problem, right now, is that if we get only three more newcomers total, somebody between Ridley, a DK rep, Shulk, and that type of rep is obviously not going to make it.

I just happen to think that either Shulk or that type of rep has the lowest odds. It's tough picking mind you, but we aren't even guaranteed more three newcomers either.

How do you reintroduce Pacman and Megaman, especially when you're trying to do that with there classic designs which are the more popular of there designs?

Okay, Pac-Man and Mega Man indeed ARE retro reps. But even now, where is our Pit?

Do you think that Pac-Man and Mega Man are the only retros for this game, and there won't be an irrelevant retro character like Pit or Ice Climbers? No actual ''forgotten'' retro? Do you think it's a higher probability that we won't have such a character?

Well I say we should still expect a Pit/Ice Climbers case. And it is the higher probability. Change the topic title to ''A roster which doesn't include a retro, and a Pit style irrelevant one at that, is not a realistic roster.'' Boy, do I really need to make it THAT spesific? We're still lacking that character! The main point of having retros in the game!

I think that a given character should only be defined as 'retro' if Sakurai himself does.

Pac-Man and Mega Man are characters that Sakurai added to give them increased relevance and attention. Done.

I really don't want to sound like trolling but *cough* ''forgotten'' *cough*.

You're mising the point.
