And not just be a Pokemon trainer clone. So no switching and stuff.

He could have random Pokemon appear on screen as his moveset and the more you play, the more Pokemon trust you and eventually you build up and play as stronger Pokemon eventually getting to Reshiram or Zekrom.

Something like that, maybe different but not the same as Red since he isn't any generic trainer.

I dislike N a whole lot. Everything he thinks and the reasons he thinks those things are all stupid and awful.

A mechanic like you one you describe would not work very well, IMO. It would put players at a big disadvantage at the start of a match and only reward you if you can survive in that disadvantaged state for a period of time. Would basically doom the character to be bad.
