There are only three exciting additions left to the roster.

Didn't Sakurai say Wario was one of the less popular additions in Brawl? Also Pit couldn't be a mass appeal character since he was obscure. Mass appeal is a character that everyone knows like Mario or Sonic. The rest are pretty much popular and recognizable among their fans.

Pauline, Palutena, Medusa, Cptn. Syrup, Mike Jones, Andy, Lip, Eirika, Bayonetta, Mr. Peepers, Micaiah, Birdo, Anna, Lyn, & Shantae for SSB4!

What about Shulk? This is only seems to be in your opinion, to other people, there's still tons of characters Nintendo could use.

Does your SSB4 roster have Shulk?...No....Then I hate it.

K. Rool
Little Mac
Ridley

Beyond the above three, there seems to be no real excitement or star power behind any additional Nintendo reps. Some new reps will please very specific fans (Waluigi, Lip, Takamaru) but not with the same appeal that Meta Knight, Wario, or Pit had.

This game seems more exciting when you include major additions from series like Mega Man, Castlevania, Sonic, & Pac-Man. Here's hoping that the flood gate for 3rd party reps is wide open.

Fixed.

What's "exciting" for SSB4 character wise is completely subjective TC. Also keep in mind 3rd parties are guests in a game that celebrates Nintendo characters so the "flood gates being wide open" for 3rd party characters is very wishful thinking. This isn't mugen you know.

There's nothing exciting about those three.

Both correct. Star power in this instance is sort of a stretch. Perhaps there aren't any major additions left. Which is a shame.

I'm not speaking from a personal place (not entirely, anyways). Nintendo's major players have been used up. If they expect the roster to generate any real buzz, I'd be looking to some of the biggest names from the days of the NES and arcades to pitch in. Pac-Man certainly carries more star power to this day then Ridley, Waluigi, or whatever a Shulk is.

Or they could downplay the roster entirely and focus on other avenues to excite buyers. The series has lots of room to grow outside of expanding on the number of characters. In fact, they may already be doing this. Didn't Sakurai make a statement regarding the size of the roster remaining fairly close to Brawl's (larger, but not to the same degree as previous jumps)?

There are plenty of exciting additions left. Isaac, any non-sword FE character, King K. Rool, Ridley, Palutena, and probably some good new Pokemon, too.

And Sakurai said too many 3rd parties would lose the focus of the game, so there will not be very many 3rd parties in this game.

Palutena, Isaac, Ridley, King K. Rool, and Anna for SSB Wii U and SSB 3DS!
SSB is the best series ever made!

Most people want K.Rool and Ridley because the other series like Mario,Zelda, and Starfox have had the main character and at least one nemesis of the respective series(Mario has Bowser, Link has Ganondorf, and Fox has Wolf). Yoshi and DK are somewhat tied to the Mario universe but have come out into their own as their own series. DK's biggest foray as his own series is the Donkey Kong Country series and his nemesis there is King K.Rool. Metroid has been around since 1986 and Ridley is the strongest nemesis that Samus has. Mother Brain would be another option but brains in jars do not good Smash characters make. The other option would be to include Metroids in some form, which is why Dark Samus is a good character for that (although the Prime series was not very popular in Japan).

That's why other nemeses like Dark Pit are being asked for. Like Event 29 in Melee (where you unlock Ganondorf), a fun thing to do in Smash Bros. is to face your nemesis in Smash-style combat.

The thing about mass appeal is that it extends to all customers, not just the people who hang out at places like this forum. The average customer's never heard of the majority of the characters in this topic.

You want to reach the biggest number of people? A few new Pokémon, a few more Mario spinoff characters (for as polarizing as he is around here, and for as minor a character as he is on the whole, Waluigi's presence in the Mario Karts/Parties of the world means he has a lot more recognition among Johnny Q. Averagegamebuyer then Little Mac, Isaac, etc.), and then go get Pac-Man and any given Skylander character.

Palutena is more exciting than K.Rool and far far far more exciting then Little Mac
