Canonically, who are the Top 3 strongest Smash characters?

We don't know how Melee Mewtwo is EV trained though or even what level he is. He seems to have pretty rubbish attacks and they don't do much damage.
He has the potential to be one of the most powerful but potential doesn't mean that he automatically is. I also figure that the Smash characters are a bit less susceptible to damage than a couple of Grunts.

Suggesting the Sonic is the epitome of the smash line up is a bit silly since without the 7 Chaos Emeralds he would have a hard time beating some one like Captain Falcon who has lighting fast reflexes due to piloting F Zero machines which travel at about the speed of sound when not boosting.

I love it how people assume that Sonic just carries around the 7 Chaos Emeralds on a daily basis.

Let me see... the ones who are in the race of the most powerful are

-Ganondorf
-Samus
-Lucas
-Ness
-Sonic
-Mewtwo

However since I am going with the game and not the show. Mewtwo is a lot less powerful. He certainly has a lot of stats but the game has always seperated a pokemons stats from their raw power.

Sonic is fast but not all that powerful and requires a series of objects to even reach his higher powers, and since the latest games do not feature Sonic's ability to ignore the chaos gem requirement he still needs it, he is out of the race.

Samus is super durable and features weaponry capable of mass destruction.

Ganondorf is powerful but he is mostly durable. Yet anyone with more ability then Link should be able to harm him, as proven in Zelda 64.

Ness and Lucas are not very powerful. Their canon power is much less then their gameplay power. As proven with anytime they have been captured. As well Fireworks and ordinary objects have always been considered on par to their psychic powers anyhow. They live in a much less lethal world.

Yeah I am going to put my money on Samus in first, Ganondorf in second, and Sonic in third.

LETS REMOVE ALL INVINSIABILITY ITEMS.
Unless its a certain part of their power (aka like an Invinsibility-for-a-short-period man) Which i doubt is any case.

Samus's Hypermode is debatable, As she looses a chunk of her Health while using it's weapon and by default.
However, in Hypermode she becomes god like to spam the most lethal substance in all of Nintendo history.

Just to clear it up, Pokemon Trainer was battle-able. I forgot which game but he HAS a cannon set and items.

Venasaur
Blastoise
Snorlax
Pikachu
Lapras
This is all he has.

And lets not forget the pokemon movies ARE NOT cannon.
We also cant take RPG stats and pretend they mean anything either, Hell, Apparantly by canon Alakazam is a more potent psychic user outside of battle mechanics.

Super Sonic, in terms of power and speed destroys Samus & Mewtwo. I can't really judge Pit since I haven't played his game(s).

Eh, no. That "temporal" thing is just a gameplay mechanic in both the Sonic & Smash games.

I think the most powerful are...
1.- Super Sonic (let's start with how he flies at light speed...and his power, the power of the chaos emeralds, is unlimited :l)
2.- Metroid...I mean, Samus (hypermode + the rest of her equipment...)
2.- Kirby (he can swallow everything, any size, any time. However, he wouldn't be able to even react to super sonic's speed)
3.- Mewtwo (I think people think he's immortal or something? All he can do is mind crush everyone...I guesss he could mind crush Kirby...)
4.- Pit
5.- Lucas (I'm not sure if Ness has a franklin badge...I mean even Ninten does...but even then, PK Love)
6.- Ness
7, 8, 9, 10.... *The rest*

Oh, and Ganon/dorf was killed by a damn wooden sword in the first Zelda. You're welcome.
