Roster Two: http://oi47.tinypic.com/281sz81.jpg

I've been thinking about what Sakurai said regarding Brawl having the maximum capacity of characters (35, or 39 with transformations).

I tried making a roster where that said capacity was increased by only 5, so it'd have a total of 40 characters (45 with transformations).

I made two rosters based on this idea. Roster One everyone from Brawl returns with 5 newcomers. Roster Two has 5 characters cut from Brawl with 10 newcomers.

So now I'll explain how I went about deciding both rosters...

ROSTER ONE - http://oi48.tinypic.com/2wd907n.jpg

For this roster, I added five newcomers. I based these five on who I personally think the 5 most likely newcomers are.

Newcomers:

1) TAKAMARU - The retro rep this time around, and probably the most likely of retro characters to be added as a playable character.

2) LITTLE MAC - This classic character was an assist trophy in Brawl. But, since Brawl, he has been revived on the Wii in in all new game. The game was fairly popular and pretty successful. I'd say he has very good chances of being included.

3) CHROM - Most recent star of the Fire Emblem series, and the latest might be the most successful installment of the entire series. He both deserves to be in, and has very good chances.

4) MII - I don't know why people think Miis have no shot at getting in, besides the fact that they weren't in Brawl. I don't think the idea of including them in non-Mii games was brought up until Mario Kart Wii, so I think this time around they have a good shot of inclusion. They're the stars of multiple Nintendo games ever since the Wii existed, and have a fantastic moveset potential.

5) PAC-MAN - We'll probably get at least one third party rep this time around, and if we do, it'll almost definitely be Pac-man. He's the mascot of co-developer Namco Bandai, and would fit wonderfully in the Smash Bros Universe.

ROSTER TWO - http://oi47.tinypic.com/281sz81.jpg

For this roster, I added 5 additional newcomers, but cut 5 characters from Brawl.

Newcomers:

6) SHULK - The star of one of the latest Nintendo franchises. The game was both a critical and commercial success. His inclusion is very likely.

7) GENESECT - Pokemon is always getting updated, and therefore will probably always have a changing roster. The 5th Generation was huge, it even had the first ever direct sequel. The best option for a 5th Gen newcomer would be Genesect, representing a bug/steel type, which we've never had before. This would also make for a very interesting moveset. If not him, it'll be a 6th Gen rep.

8) PALUTENA - Do I think Kid Icarus deserves a new rep? No, they've only had two games. But I think they will get one just because Sakurai made the latest entry to the series, and Palutena is the most likely and deserving option.

9) KING K. ROOL - He's been highly requested ever since Melee, and I think this time around, his chances are better since they've gotten those more important than him out of the way. He isn't forgotten either, as he appeared as playable in the recent Super Mario Sluggers, which was made by Namco Bandai. Does that mean anything? Not sure, but it doesn't hurt his chances.

10) DILLON - I thought the roster could use a bit a a curveball. Ever since Brawl, Nintendo has gotten more into downloadable games. With a successful game and a sequel in the way, I think Dillon has decent chances and would be a great addition.

Cut Characters:

1) TOON LINK - Clones are wastes of space, no matter how glorified they are. What makes it worse is when they are just an incarnation of another character. Toon Link is both of these.

2) FALCO - He's another glorified clone, and the least important to the Starfox series of the 3 Starfox reps in Brawl. Wolf is also a much more contrastable clone of Fox.

3) LUCAS - Yet another unnecessary, glorified clone. I honestly wouldn't care if Ness got cut instead but, based on a recent pole I did, most of you seem to rather Lucas get cut if one of them had to. I see them as equally relevant, so I don't care.

4) LUCARIO - A Pokemon rep has got to be cut if we're getting a Pokemon newcomer, 7 is too many. Pikachu is the mascot of the series, so he's safe. Jigglypuff, while not as relevant as she used to be to Pokemon, is still relevant as a classic Smash Bros character who has been in since the beginning, so she's safe. Pokemon Trainer is the main protagonist of the series, so he's safe (I suppose his Pokemon could change, though). This makes Lucario the most expendable. This upsets me a bit, just because I thought his gimmick was very interesting.

5) IKE - He was the star of the Fire Emblem series for a VERY short time. The ones he starred in were also not as successful as the other installments.

So which roster would you prefer? I'd personally be fine with both of these, as it would probably mean they get to focus more on movesets, gameplay, and other features.

Both are kinda eh, but I'd prefer more newcomers over less, for the most part. After all, I can always go back and play Project M when I want to use any of the cut Brawl characters.

The first roster might have been bearable had one of the slots not been wasted on Mii's. >_>

Where's the "I hate them both" option?
---
Soul Calibur V: Cervantes, Nightmare /// Project M: Ganondorf, Ike, Lucario
Persona 4 Arena: Labrys, Yukiko. May be switching out Yukiko for Aigis

Better than a useless "Random" slot.

True, but it's a pretty rotten deal if they constitute one of the few (5) newcomers we end up getting. =/

Uprising is one of Nintendo's best games in the last ten years...
I voted for the roster with Palutena
