Mewtwo has a good chance, actually.

The movie only proves hes still relevant. He is by no means a shoo-in but his chances are high enough to consider. The sheer fan demand is his strongest point however. While I doubt it will happen a Genesect vs. Mewtwo smash match sounds awesome.

This sig will not change until mewtwo is confirmed in Super Smash Bros 4!

I'm honestly expecting Mewtwo's return because he was strongly considered for Brawl, he has huge demand in Japan, and has a prominent role in the new movie. Everything's working in his favor.

He has a fair chance. Him being in the movie shows that the Pokemon Company still cares about advertizing him.

He's not going to be replacing Lucario or Jigglypuff, though, nor is he going to have priority over a 6th Gen rep, so go ahead and get those thoughts out of your head.

Genesect is more likely to be a newcomer for being the star of said movie.

That, and Mewtwo has low priority amongst Pokemon. See: The original listing for Brawl.

Sure, Mewtwo (and according to said original listing, Jigglypuff as well) was lower on the priority list for Pokemon characters in Brawl, but being the most requested character in Japan could very well have an impact. The movie is just the icing on the cake at this point, because it makes Mewtwo "current."

Genesect seems more of the Deoxys class of Pokemon. It won't help if it's incapable of regular speech in the movie, since that would make it lack personality and it won't stand out. Aside from Pokemon Trainer's Pokemon, each Pokemon that has been playable in Smash Bros. has had a personality to draw from the anime (Ash's Pikachu, mic Jiggs, movie Mewtwo, Pichu bros., and movie Lucario).

Well, you know GameFREAK. Even though they advertise old favorites, they rather have something new in. The old favorite (in this case, Mewtwo) is just to give more appeal so more people would pay attention to the new thing (Genesect).

"they rather have something new in".
Care to provide a source? Can you prove in any way that Pichu and Lucario were added solely because they were new?
