Takamaru and Nazo no Murasame Castle

For those that have been living under a rock lately, a samurai has been recently getting publicity. Takamaru, from Nazo no Murasame Jo (The Mysterious Murasame Castle), an obscure game for the Famicom Disk System. It's odd how such a character is getting publicity lately considering the game in question was a bomb at the market place, especially when the game being referenced started in 2004 via Pikmin 2. It seems this is going to pushed further in the future if the ambiguous fate of 3D Classics: Nazo no Murasame Castle and "Nazo no Murasame Castle 2" propose by Hideki Kamiya have anything to say. For the record, the game in question Nazo no Murasame Castle is a top down game in a vein to The Legend of Zelda that takes place in ancient Japan. It stars the protagonist Takamaru, who must travel to 4 color themed castles and defeat the lords in order to stop a mysterious force from controlling Murasame and plunging the land in darkness. The game is divided into a total of 10 stages, 4 "outside" stages, 5 "castle" stages, and the Final Boss. The objective of the game is to get from point A to point B, while slaughtering varies enemies ranging from ninja to demons. The game in general feels like The Legend of Zelda, but with the key differences of very limited health, lives, time limits, standard attacks being implemented for the A button and special attacks for the B button, and an emphasis on action instead of exploration. So anyway, to not stray too far from the subject. What I am hear to say is I believe Takamaru from Nazo no Murasame Jo should be given a chance this time around. Some people maybe concerned with the idea, some might be skeptical, some might be interested, but one thing for sure is Nazo no Murasame Jo is getting attention. While I'm saying anything is guaranteed, I would actually find such a character to fascinating. A character that embeds culture from Japan is something that would stand out in my opinion. My concern is whether the idea of including Takamaru would actually fall through. I mean the game in question is still a very obscure piece of software, which makes me worried it might be over looked. I am just curious to see what others think of Takamaru. If you have any questions regarding to Takamaru or Nazo no Murasame Jo, feel free to ask.

Isn't it a bit contradictory to say that people have been "living under a rock" if they don't know about an obscure Japan-only game and character? And what publicity are you even referring to? Everything you mentioned seems like rumors, or low-key news that clearly hasn't been making many headlines. It probably would have made more sense to reference his inclusion in Captain Rainbow, or the NintendoLand game "Takamaru's Ninja Castle." But even those are obscure references, considering Captain Rainbow is also an obscure Japan-only game, and NintendoLand doesn't show Takamaru and is on a flopping console. But I digress. I think most people know who Takamaru is around here, and according to Sakurai... he only needs a new game to have his inclusion cemented; so we don't know if the NintendoLand minigame is good enough or not.

PlasmaCannon posted... No more sword users. Thanks. Having a sword is not exactly a problem like you think. Through out Super Smash Bros., we've only had about 7 total out of about 44 characters in the whole series that uses swords. Even then the characters are not exactly unoriginal knockoffs (mostly), I mean there are differences between Link, Marth, Ike, and Meta Knight for example. I don't see why Takamaru would exactly be unoriginal, especially if you involve the ninjustu characteristics and martial arts relating to the art of the sword (specifically the katana) like battojutsu and laijutsu.

I look at the fact that many people love characters like the Ice Climbers and Game & Watch. Be it obscurity or just bad gameplay, their games are nothing special whatsoever, but translated into SSB, they become unique interesting fighters that many perfer over typcal characters like Mario, Samus, and Fox. That said, I think Takamaru's more asian ninja/samurai inspired sword style would be a welcome addition to our so call "too many boring swordsmen" problem. --- The Korey: Belligerent thundering since 1988. http://i50.tinypic.com/10y1b3t.jpg
