Will Smash 3DS OUTSELL Smash Wii U?

#1dedekongPosted 3/26/2013 2:41:36 PM
The Wii U is selling poorly, and it doesn't it like that will change any time soon. So I have to wonder if the 3DS smash bros will end up outselling Smash Wii U. The 3DS has sold over 30 million units world wide, while Wii U is allegedly at 3 million+ units sold world wide. It's pretty clear the 3DS is at an advantage here, and so it is safe to say the gap will only increase over time.

The only factors that might put the Wii U at an advantage is if the core Smash fans only buy the Wii U version. The appeal of the Wii U version will obviously be HD graphics, and a more refined, larger game. But I guess the core fans will likely be picking up copies on both consoles.

Do you think Smash 3DS will outsell Smash Wii U?

Probably not. You're kinda basing it on the install base the better part of a year before the games come out.

What? the Wii U adoption rate has been dropping for weeks now. There are no games coming that will cause a surge in sales anytime soon. Meanwhile the 3DS's install base continues to dominate Japan, and is growing in other markets at a steady pace. It also has a ton of games lined up the will further increase its appeal and install base. Even if Wii U's started selling at a healthy rate, it still wouldn't effect the potential for Smash 3DS to sell incredibly well, if not better than its Wii U counter part.

Why did you even ask the question? You seem awfully convinced.

The only reason the Wii U isn't selling is because of the lack of games. It'll be fixed by the end of the year.

The 3ds smash board isn't even really noticed... Of course it's not going to outsell the console version.

At most it does have a bigger install base for sure, but in time the wiiu will expand its as well. And we definitely know this game could be a system seller for sure, but either way it doesnt matter since its a win win scenario for nintendo either way.
