Which 3rd party characters will we get?

#1Doug314Posted 4/16/2013 9:17:42 PM
It seems to me that we're pretty much agreed on the best form of the roster otherwise that it'll have the newcomers

King K. Rool
Mewtwo
Some FE newcomer
Ridley
Isaac
Palutena
Takamaru
Shulk
Little Mac

I know some disagree but this seems to be the overall most liked list. So assuming those are the rest of the newcomers, which would be the most likely 3rd parties?

I'd say Sonic/Snake/Lloyd/Megaman or Sonic/Snake/Lloyd or Sonic/Snake/Pac-Man/Megaman or one of a handful of other possibilities, which do you find most likely?

Palutena, Isaac, Ridley, King K. Rool, and Anna for SSB4

Another to add to the list of, "haha oh wow" posts that Doug has made.

Surely there's no problem with them putting me in Brawl, right?
It's ****ing satire, damnit. In NGE, Doritos are perishable goods

I think Pac-Man is the likeliest. Then i'd say Bayonetta and Layton for their strong business ties with Nintendo. I'm unsure about Mega Man, his popularity means nothing if Capcom does not permit. Snake and Sonic could easily stay but they can also be removed since they were labeled "guests".

Pauline, Palutena, Bayonetta, Cptn. Syrup, Eirika, Micaiah, Anna, Lyn, Lucina, Shantae, Lip, Andy, Medusa, Birdo, & Mike Jones for SSB4!

If this game gets Megaman I'll laugh so hard at the UMvC3 board.

King K. Rool
Mewtwo
Chrom
Ridley
Palutena
Takamaru
Shulk
Little Mac

Fixed.

Anyway I would expect two third party newcomers. A Namco rep (most likely Pac-Man or Lloyd) and another rep of sorts. That's my two cents.

Also Snake and Sonic both have 50% chance of returning. Snake could easily get replaced by Big Boss but since he is also known as Snake (and looks nearly identical) that shouldn't be a big deal. Sonic will return as he is.

I think we will get three third-parties; Snake and Sonic's return along with the addition of Mega Man. Layton is also someone to consider since Hino, president of Level-5, wants him in Smash and is friends with Sakurai, although less likely. But that's about it for what I see.

I can't believe how convinced you are that Namco won't get a rep. They're developing the game, they have one of the biggest gaming icons of all time as their mascot, and the director of one of their series, Tales, is leading development with Sakurai.

All Mega Man has got his high demand.

The thing that most people forget about Namco is that developing the game =/= a Namco rep being more likely. Sakurai did not select them to help out with the character roster, they were, like you said, helping out with the game play. It doesn't mean as much as most people think.

Pac-Man is indeed a massive icon, but that didn't stop him from being doubted for good reasons by many people before the announcement of Namco's involvement. The only reason why he's considerably requested is because of Namco's involvement, but that won't be enough to do anything (and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the support was simply based on the expectations of a Namco character). He's not impossible and admittedly, being as iconic as he is does help, but considering that his massive iconic status didn't get him into Brawl, I don't think it is as big of a factor as people think and his iconic status is the only thing people have going for him. Frankly, I have a hard time seeing Sakurai being interested in Pac-Man.

You're also undercutting what Mega Man has going for him.

Mega Man's demand isn't just high, it's massive. He is probably the most wanted newcomer for the game overall (Mega Man usually reach the Top 3 most wanted overall, most of the time either 1st or 2nd) internationally (Snakey, who visited Japanese websites, noted that Mega Man was the most wanted newcomer in there). Being the most wanted newcomer is a pretty big deal and Mega Man would end up bringing more hype to the game than any other potential Nintendo newcomer.

Which brings me to my next point, Sakurai is very much aware of Mega Man's popularity. He noted that Mega Man was popular (oversea that is) all the way back to pre-Melee time. Back when most fans who throw bricks at you, Sakurai noted that Mega Man was wanted by some people in Smash. If Sakurai is going to go for any third-party character, it won't be for a Namco character, it will be for Mega Man.

And Mega Man is iconic. The franchise put Capcom on the map as one of the prestige video game companies. When people think of Capcom, many of them think of the Blue Bomber and all of the high-quality games that fans remember. Granted, it doesn't have much of an effect on his chance, but he is definitely an important part of the video game industry.

Both Mega Man and Pac-Man are important, but Mega Man has massive popularity whereas Pac-Man has decent popularity at best for Smash (which is pretty artificial anyway, considering that most of it steamed from Namco's involvement in Smash 4). The one with both massive popularity and importance is more likely going to be the one that Sakurai would want as the third-party in the next game.
