Instead of new Pikmin....

(I am sure this idea was probably thought up already but)

Why don't we just add subspecies of the original 3 (and possibly white and purple as well) I mean nothing overly crazy, just possibly 2 or so different kinds of each, but the amount or pikmin out is the same....

It could possibly some kind of nectar thing, where there are different kind that can change to pikmin in different ways.

Like one thing I imagined are Blue off shoots called "Jets" and what they do is move faster in water, and when you throw them, instead of just being thrown they can work as torpedoes.

Or possibly a Super Sumo Purple, where it packs an even more powerful punch and lifts slightly stronger, but it is much to heavy for Olimar to lift (so no throwing them) and they are amazingly slow.....

But these are just a couple of Ideas I had, because no mater how many new pikmin ideas I see, I always kinda have a problem with adding more than the 5 we already have... (mainly how to make it work with the 100 pikmin limit)

Or perhaps have an item or some science-fiction device/substance that you can inject on a group of pikmin to change them into a light or dark version of the original color. I don't mean the kind of yin-yang thing a la Link to the Past or Metroid Prime 2, but just the tint will be darker or lighter; and that these lighter or darker variations will have slightly different abilities than the regular colored pikmin.

Just throwing stuff out there.

Like shades? that is a possibility, I would rather see the models slightly changed as well, like the "Jets" Would have dorsal fins and a streamlined body to move faster in water... or something

actually how it happens, well I have no idea on that, just the nectar seemed the simplest.

Or you could include two sprays alongside, or replacing, the ultra-spicy and ultra-bitter ones that would make your group a lighter or darker shade, and perhaps these would be more common and not have the player to rely on having to harvest berries and consume a lot of time.

Issue with the idea of shades:

Pikmin colors already fade and brighten based on whether they're currently under your command or not.

3+ pikmin colors * (dark or light) * 3+ shades = 18+ different colors you'd have to distinguish between at a glance.

Well in pikmin2 they dropped the different shade colours of pikmin and just made their heads glow when dismissed.

Or it could be the glow of their stems that are affected. Also, the paleness in color of dismissed pikmin wasn't as strong in Pikmin 2 as it was in the first game.

Well I still would really rather have them look physically different than just shades of the color.... also possibly change the way the pikmin are dismissed (either normally just by color, or by color and type) Or something like that....

They could add a third, mutation spray, that turns the flowers of the pikmin into something more unique.

Off the top of my head, yellow pikmin could get dandelions that expand when they're in the air, making them even lighter then before, allowing them to float across large chasms.

Blue pikmin get small lily pads that expand when they're in water, allowing for temporary platforms that allow other pikmin to cross.

Red pikmin get spiky burs that they can use to anchor themselves to the ground to protect themselves from certain attacks and conditions (such as windy areas.)

White pikmin get a tulip-esque flowers that acts as a sort've sound receiver, allowing the captain to send them of to far off places and command them from long distances.

Can't really think of anything for purple pikmin <_<
