So I've been playing through Pikmin recently and there has been one thing that is really pissing me off. When the pikmin take a ship part back they often walk strait through enemies and get themselves killed and ruin everything, or they take a path back that is longer, stuff like that. So i think that since this game will use the Wii U touchscreen controller, they should allow you to draw the path that the pikmin will take when they take stuff back to the ship. It doesn't need to be mandatory so you don't have to draw a path every time, but only when you think it would be helpful. I know this could limit puzzles slightly, such as if the game required you to use blues to take the object through the water but you drew a path around the water, but maybe it could be restricted for certain items or someone. But anyways, just an idea I came up with that I think could really improve this game.

I second this 100%. That really did piss me off when they went in set paths back to the ship.

Man, the Wii U really will be great for this game.

Excellent idea.

This doesn't limit puzzles at all. It just means the level designers have to ensure that an item that requires blue pikmin to carry doesn't have any paths that other pikmin can take.

Just remember, Pikmin is one of those series where it's quality > quantity.

Maybe it can be one of those upgrades you get like the whistle-pluck or something.

the fact that they doesn´t let us do that is because it adds some puzzle to the game that you have to clear the area before bringing something to the ship. (Yeah pikmin are stupids for doing that but i <3 them) :)

^Yeah, that's why I said they could disable it for certain items, incase getting the item back is part of the puzzle.

No, disabling the feature is dumb. It is either there or it isn't there, there's no arbitrary "sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't" feature. That's just poor puzzle design.

If clearing an area is required to get an item back to the ship, then item and ship should be placed so that to get from one to the other you must cross the area. There could be any number of reasons why you have to cross the area, but it's up to the puzzle / level designers.

Something that just occurred to me... if they have a feature like this, you could have your pikmin carry items to places other than back to the ship. There could be puzzle elements, like ramps or springs or blocks that you could find in one place that you need in another to be able to reach an area. For example, you could find a ramp that needs to be moved next to the cliff so that Olimar can get up it.

I agree with everything said in this post. I support the TC's idea, but it should always work IMO. It is too much arbitrary scripting to make it not work sometimes.

And to the idea at the end, that would be pretty awesome. The Wii U will be perfect for Pikmin in so many ways, such as drawing paths. But that is just the start. I have always though of Pikmin like a real-time strategy game, and the Wii U controller makes it possible to give directions and such, just like you could on the computer with a keyboard and mouse playing Starcraft or something. There are so many opportunities for the new Pikmin, Nintendo better not mess it up. I have faith in them though!

This is something that could previously only be done efficiently and precisely on the PC. The Wii U's controller could do a great deal to improve the complexity of console games. I definitely hope to see more control like this in Pikmin 3, it's a good concept.
