It's hard for me to imagine a new Pikmin type with what Pikmin 2 accomplished

it'd be interesting to see how the better path finding works.

Shouldn't that kind of task be left up to the player, rather than the Pikmin? I think it's a perfect way of utilizing the Wii U's touch screen:

Good hearing and good smelling are impractical for anything which I can think of. In a game where the Pikmin don't really show signs of hearing (save some enemy roars) or smell, it doesn't make sense to throw in those senses.

I was under the impression it was the smell of those guys that come out of the eggs that cause your pikmin to panic.

Constructors have been an idea many people seem to be fond of, which I certainly can't blame them for. However, I think if there was a Pikmin type dedicated solely to building and demolishing, then they ought to be less combat-efficient. Also, they ought to not have any elemental immunities either, which still leaves clearing the way of traps to other Pikmin types. They'd be a better surface kind of Pikmin, but not so much underground.

So they'd be like the builders of other RTS games like StarCraft / WarCraft / C&C... interesting, but what resources would they use? Would you need to find materials and bring them to the onion, or would the materials be brought where you want them, or would the materials simply be where you need them (like the bridges you can unroll in Pikmin 2.) Or would the Pikmin themselves be the building material, like I proposed in the thread I posted a link to above... in the opening post I proposed blue pikmin could link together to form bridges or rafts to get the other pikmin across safely.

I actually read your post before, and I was thinking how great of an idea that'd be. It'd at least be nice to give 'em different branches of their current route just to avoid unnecessary conflict. I think this will be great if the bases are located more center on the map (a la Pikmin 1) instead of along the border (as in Pikmin 2).

I was under the impression it was the smell of those guys that come out of the eggs that cause your pikmin to panic.

After reviewing the Mitites entry, apparently they DO release some nasty pheromone which Pikmin dislike. Except the Purples, anyways.

I actually am unsure about spontaneously creating bridges. Usually wherever a bridge is needed, the materials are already just laying there. If bridges had to manually be placed, then it would take so much longer to figure out just exactly how the bridge needs to be placed. And just exactly how many Blues would be needed to support another squad of Pikmin above them? I feel it'd be easier to just take ten or so and build a preexisting stack of sticks into a bridge than to get thirty Pikmin so another group of Pikmin can deal with the situation.
