Seriously the real challenge of Pikmin 2 was getting your Pikmin alive in the entire dungeon, which where actually quite hard, go away arguing with your casual challenges elsewhere. Wanting to explore shouldnt take the challenge from a game, thats bad development. --- obvious sticky (;
30 days ... that is plenty ... unless you suck at Pikmin. :P --- Pokemon Black FC: 2451-4503-4086 Monkey Hug! XP http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iu9-I3AMu0g
I actually find Pikmin 2 more stressful than the first. The 30 Day time limit was not really strict at all. In Pikmin 2, I'm constantly in a rush to finish my business because the days are shorter. Also, the dungeons seemed to be designed solely to stress you out half the time. --- E means "Everyone", not "Eleven and under". Inb4 KirbyMastah There is very little challenge in pikmin 2 its almost impossible to lose Pikmin in pikmin 2 after playing through the game once. Why? Because of Purples, you can get limitless numbers of them but the game forces you to have 20 before you can progress. That amount is easily enough to curb stomp every creature in the game. Its why quite a few of timed runs (not day runs) take only purples and whites (and occasionally yellows or blues pending hazard) into the cave. Those two types handle everything in the game. Purples kill everything and can carry large treasure. Whites kill poison and carry stuff fast. Fillers take out their respective hazard the others have problems with. Furthermore, you can just berry grind until you have 10 of each spray, you're never going to need to use them unless you are a bit stupid and accidentally let your pikmin begin to get eaten, in which case you can bitter spray them and save them. Furthermore almost all enemies can actually be killed by the captains. Or animate objects such as bomb rocks, falling boulders, or magnetic boulders. There is a challenge in Pikmin 2, but for those that know what they are doing. There seriously isn't. You can dismantle the game really easily with Purples and whites. Sure you could just not use them. But i'd prefer a game which actually forced you to not use them to this extent, rather than giving everyone that hates the "there is no challenge argument" the get out of jail free-card: "Just don't use them." - If it makes something quicker and easier, why wouldn't you use something. I personally wouldn't get a greater sense of accomplishment using a paintbrush to paint my house. When my neighbour used a roller and finished in half the time to the same standard. So yeah in conclusion, its not hard to get all of your pikmin out of a cavern alive, particularly when you can just reset and reload the sublevel and all your min. But i do agree with your sentiments of "wanting to explore shouldn't take away the challenge of a game". I'd like a happy medium really. It won't bother me if there is a time limit, but i can see why it would bother some people. --- Black FC: 2666-8397-4718 Author of the Starfox Story on the Starfox Assault board. Check it out! Legitimate question here, was anyone ever actually game over'd by the TL in the first pikmin? --- Official Deidara of TNS.
My first time through, I definitely would have had I not restarted the game. I finally made it to the Distant Spring on Day 20 because I was terrible at this game when I first got it.
The thing I liked about the time limit in the first game was that, for me, it gave great replayability. I played and played and played to get the amount of days spent on the game down to as few as possible. i replayed a day if the dumbest thing went wrong- and i still managed to have fun with it. it was a game of strategy and extreme time management, that was its difficulty. In Pikmin 2, if half of your Pikmin died in a bullbear accident, it was hardly a setback, you could take an entire day to regain them, and typically gain a surplus. it was laid back in that aspect. the difficulty wasnt in time management at all. Sure, enemies were much tougher than in the first game. bosses were often relentless and losses were imminent. Not much skill was required, to be honest, as bloodbaths had no repercussions. but the length and value to the game came in the form of its extremely long story, should you be willing to find every treasure. and for me, the games much improved challenge mode. In pikmin 3, I am not against a time limit, but at the same time i will be disappointed if the game is as short as the original. the time limit made the game what it was. if there was never a time limit in pikmin 1, the urgency, the strategy, the basis behind the game would be underminded by going to the landing site for 5 days in a row and having a neverending army of pikmin. all skill would be lost and the game would be a cakewalk. and we would never have gotten a pikmin 2 or 3. TLDR: time limit is great, but without it strategy is lost.
Nintendo should make the time limit optional. It would satisfy both sets of fans.
You can't just make a big core mechanic of a game "optional...."
