shadowreaper7Posted 1/23/2013 10:54:02 AM | Pikmin is an RTS (Real-time strategy game) combined with Micromanagement, and subtle hints of exploration and puzzle solving.
You play as a astronaut who during a voyage is hit by an asteroid and sent crashing down to an unknown planet (though one the player will find strangely similar).
On this planet the astronaut, Captain Olimar, will find creatures called pikmin whom he will befriend and use to help him rebuild his spaceship whose parts have been scattered across the world.
There are 3 types of pikmin (for pikmin 1) Red, which have higher attack than the others and an immunity to fire. Yellow, which can jump higher than the others and can carry explosive bomb rocks. And Blue, which can breath in water.
You have to explore the 5 different areas in pikmin and hunt down all of your ship parts. Some of the parts will be in plain sight, some behind walls, some in water. Or even some in the depths of an enemys intestine. Collecting a certain amount of parts opens up the next area and so on and so forth. However you only have a certain amount of time each day as you are forced to head into the atmosphere at the end of the day to avoid hostile nocturnal creatures. Any pikmin not in there onions or underground are devoured.
The enemies in Pikmin range from your garden variety beetle, to weird snake/bird hybrids called snagrets. You've also got your 4 legged spider which drops from the ceiling and scares the crap out of you. Along with a suitably tough end boss which i won't spoil for you. There is also a quite scary optional boss too, but this is only available to fast players who can make it to area 4 before day 15.
The Pikmin themselves are you necessary allies. Because the ship parts requires a certain amount of pikmin to carry them. If you don't have enough. It means you have to farm more pikmin by taking the pellet from the pellet posy flowers and harvesting it at the respective pikmins onion. The Pikmin will also harvest the corspes of enemies. With the majority of pikmin of a certain colour dictating which onion the corpse is taken to.
For the first game you need to manage your pikmin efficiently to get enough ship parts to make your escape from the planet before your air supply runs out on day 30.
And that concludes my synopsis of pikmin 1. Pikmin 2 introduces a couple of differences. The first is you are now treasure hunting. The second is yellows now can't wield bomb rocks, but are instead immune to electricity.
There are two new pikmin types. White - which are faster, can see underground treasure, and are immune to and emit poison. Purple - far far slower, but decimate every enemy they face with double attack and stun damage.
And finally, you can now explore caves. Which are series of random sublevels with set enemies and treasures on each, with a boss on the final floor.
And errr. i think thats it. --- Black FC: 2666-8397-4718 Author of the Starfox Story on the Starfox Assault board. Check it out! Don't Fear the Reaper |
