So has it been officially confirmed that multiplayer is cut?

Agreed with Art, no doubt in my mind that this will have multiplayer.

My question is how it will do so, and how many players it will support.

The only thing we know for sure is that it won't have online multiplayer... and frankly, why would that be surprising with Nintendo? However, the fact that they had to specifically mention that this game won't have 'online' multiplayer and everything else pretty much confirms that this game will absolutely have local multiplayer.
