My Ideas

I've been playing Plants Vs. Zombies a lot (it was free on the iOS app store) and I've noticed I really love the mechanic that there are ~50 different plant types to choose from, but at the start of each level they limit you to only picking ~7 of them. The different types are generally quite different, and it's reaffirmed to me this idea:

There should be a TON of types of Pikmin, all of them quite unique, but you can only pick a few, say 3, to bring down at the start of each level. Here are my ideas for different Pikmin types:

Red Pikmin: Immune to Fire, Faster Attack

Yellow Pikmin: Immune to Electricity, Can be Thrown Further

Blue Pikmin: Immune to Water, Can throw drowning Pikmin to Shore

Purple Pikmin: Slower, Stronger Attack, Slower Walking, As Heavy as 10 Others, Can Lift as much as 10 Others, Homes in on enemies when thrown, requires 10 times as much food to be produced (the Purple onion will sprout whiskers like the Purple Pikmin to indicate how close it is to producing another purple sprout.)

White Pikmin: Faster, Immune to Poison, Can detect items underground

Orange Pikmin: They have visible fingers! The fingers allow them to pick up bomb rocks and hurl them at enemies and obstacles. They're also great at grabbing onto enemies. They're three times as likely to resist being shaken off as the other Pikmin.

Green Pikmin: They have legs, a body, and a lilipad where their head should be. Two eye stalks come out of the lilipad. They breath through a hole in the lilipad, which allows them to go through water. Other Pikmin are capable of riding across water on these Pikmin.

Cyan Pikmin: They leave frozen trails behind them when they walk. Some enemies will slip on the frozen trails, impairing their ability to pursue you and your Pikmin. If the frozen trail is on a slanted surface, anything on that frozen trail will slide downhill pretty quickly. Used strategically, this can allow you to rapidly move items where you want them to go.

Gray Pikmin: They're hard, stoney looking pikmin. They can be thrown at crystals to break the crystals.

Pink Pikmin: When thrown, Pink Pikmin will drift back down very slowly (say, over a few minutes.) Essentially, they fly for a bit. This allows them to pass by any obstacles.

Spirit Pikmin: They're non-solid, silvery sparkly Pikmin that float above your other Pikmin. They're twice as large as other Pikmin in every dimension. They have no onion but can sometimes be found in the wild. They have no ability to attack or work, they don't contribute to the 100 Pikmin limit, and they're immune to everything. Other Pikmin enveloped by them move, work, and attack faster.

I couldn't resist just spewing some ideas out, especially given how dead these forums have been recently.

Seems interesting.

I only sorta skimmed your actual Pikmin ideas, so all I can say is this: Spirit Pikmin appear to be useless in more ways than there are things that can represent how useless they look to me.

...not necessarily useless, but... they just don't impact anything enough to be worth a type.

I'll feel stupid for this post in about six months. You literally have to punch me in the face right now about it.

I'm gonna chop change and adapt your ideas.

New interactable objects (based on things ingame that we've seen, and some stuff i find interesting which we haven't seen):

Lily Pad - Requires a certain amount of blues to lift the lily pad and carry it into water currents. Once placed in currents the blues will let go and the pad will continue circling.
The Lily pad can then carry other pikmin, but not while the blues carry them.

Crystalline wall - Crystal wall blah blah rock pikmin blah blah shatters blah blah use pieces to build bridges.

Lift twigs - Twigs positioned on a see-saw system. Used to throw pikmin over walls or other high places. The heavier the pikmin thrown, the more pikmin can be launched, or alternativly, the higher the sole pikmin will be thrown.

New Pikmin:
Pink - Can fly, yeah you all saw this coming

Rock - can run at stuff and shatter stuff. Bet you didn't know that.

Green - i'm going to go a different route with green pikmin as opposed to most. I'm not going to go the route of acid immunity or Cacti type abilities. Instead, i'm going to go for the route of how useful they are at performing tasks.

Green pikmin unlike the other pikmin do not have a standard flower on their head, they have a small sharp blade, with two small leaves (which mature into flowers over time) on the side of their head. If you've seen bellossom you'll know what i'm talking about.
The blade causes them to cause slightly more damage than most pikmin (1.2X), they can also destroy walls and build bridges much faster because of this blade.
When attacking, if eaten, the blade breaks and causes a strange sap like liquid to ooze from the pikmin and stop the creature from eating for a small period. It will however not damage the creature in anyway.
The Green pikmin are also coated in a strange khaki stylised armour which prevents them from being killed by explosive blasts or boulders. They are merely pushed back.
