Do you think it would greatly benefit me to play Pikmin 1 & 2 first, before this one? I got interested in the series due to Nintendo Land's mini game.

It's hard to tell considering we don't know much about the game but I think you should try the first two, yes. It will make you know the pikmin series better then the minigame probably did. I'd start with the 2nd before the first as the first has a time limit.

don't start with the second then the first. otherwise you'll hate the first because it has fewer features than the second. play them in order, so you can get a general feel of how the series developed between the two games.

Okay, I'll try to get hands on them. Do you recommend the GC or Wii versions of the games?

I personally am a big fan of the GC games. But the Wii version is probably better for beginners as it fixed a few things such as the crushing glitch. Pikmin 2 for GC would be expensive actually, since it's considered rare. I think you should get the wii versions because they are cheaper and easier to obtain, plus Pikmin 3 uses a control scheme very similar to the new play control.

I bought Pikmin 1 off eBay for about $10 last year.
