Los Puerta = San Diego

Special thanks to GTA forums and the user canttakemyid for compiling all this.

Los Puerta means 'the door' in Spanish and San Diego is the door to the USA through California as it's a border town with Tijuana Mexico. The "Los Puerta Fwy" in the trailer runs north/south as 'I-5'(0:31) just as the real life fwy called 'I-5' runs the same north/south route and is known as the "San Diego Fwy." R* said '...present day Southern California'(exact words) in the press release and LA doesn't even make up half of SoCal's population. San Diego's has a lot of cultural significance in SoCal as well. As we can see by the jet in the trailer the military presence returns to the game and San Diego has more military significance to the US Armed Forces than any other city on the west coast. It would also explain why the trailer LS didn't seem to scream,"the biggest and most ambitious" at the audience even with a country side.

Now I know San Diego wasn't in SA but the whole point of the universe thing seems to be explaining the changes in GTA environments from title to title anyway. San Andreas used to just be a city in earlier the GTA 1 so this just goes to show you that it is known to change. Another point to consider was that Ross Wallace went to four cities in 2010, LA, SF, LV and San Diego. So if you happen to put stock in that particular theory it's another piece of the puzzle. For those unfamiliar with that theory Ross Wallace is a level designer at R* and he's made two trips with multiple R* photographers to La, SF, LV and San Diego in last couple years. Here's a link http://www.flickr.com/photos/rosswallace/collections/72157623803148118/

Now based on this I believe San Diego will be in the game with the fictional name Los Puerta. Even if you believe there will just be one city there could be a SD themed section similar to the New Jersey section in Liberty City in GTA IV. I personally think there will be more than one city but either option is likely until we get more info.

Doesn't sound too farfetched. I really have no strong feelings either way, though.

Isn't there an R* studio in San Diego?

Yeah they were the ones that made Red Dead Redemption and the Midnight Club series.

it seems possible, but los puerta is mispelled or mispronounced because "los" is plural in spanish and "puerta" refers to a single door, and the word is what we call a "female" word, it would be "la puerta" or "las puertas". but I agree San Diego would be a nice addittion.

I'm relying on online translators that assure me it's correct. Just goes to show that Google isn't always right. However, the fact that it's a double entendre screams legit R* local.

"Los Puerta" is grammatically incorrect in Spanish. It's mixing gender agreement and plurality, so I wouldn't read too much into the name itself.

However I think "Los Puerta" in GTA V will actually be a representation of the Long Beach / San Pedro port area and not San Diego. Interstate 5 hooks east and runs through Orange County for awhile in real life before heading towards San Diego, which is over a hundred miles away from downtown Los Angeles. My guess is that Rockstar is going to have the "I-5" in Los Santos swing west instead and amalgamate with I-110 / Harbor Freeway which ends in San Pedro near the Port of Los Angeles.

R* has been known to take liberties with geography before so I wouldn't rule it out. Certainly if you think they're going to reroute highways then you have to admit it's equally likely that they'd shorten the distance between LS and SD.

They've also messed up Spanish before, anyone remember this town? http://gta.wikia.com/El_Quebrados#Trivia

Either one is possible. "Puerta" has a somewhat ambiguous meaning in Spanish. It can refer to either a door or a "gate", which could mean either a land border or sea border depending on the context.

Always been thinking of that, but the biggest question is (in-game) what happens to the 5 as it runs out of Los Santos? Will it follow into a San Diego-like city or will it fan out into the beaches/countryside or will it be sealed off as the end boundary of the map? We may never know....

Replace Chris Collinswprth with Phil Simms and add CBS presentation to make an awesome Madden.

Or we may find out in a month or two after MP3 is released and over with.
