Map Size Comparison

It's not just about raw size. The scale is getting increased to, the detail in that huge area is pretty high. Just Cause 2 and Burnout are virtually giant areas with little inside.

Dude... RDR smaller than both?? You obviously haven't played RDR. RDR is 1.5 times the size of SA.. See, this is what i'm talking about, people have this distorted mental image of how big SA was, but it really wasn't.

RDR is not 1.5 the size of SA. It's smaller.

The map in that link is one I made and it's not correct.

That first pic is trash.

Judging by that pic it takes me 10 seconds to drive the distance in Burnout Paradise that is equal to the width of San Andreas' map.

Doug

What map is larger? RDR or SA?

I'd say they are roughly even. RDR feels even bigger than it is because the fastest vehicle is a horse. Also areas that look to be part of the map in RDR aren't actually accessible, whereas every inch of San Andreas is since it is surrounded by ocean which you can also explore.

If you just base it off the maps you could say RDR is about 1.5 times bigger than San Andreas, but if you actually play the game can see that it is really about the same size because a decent portion of the land on the border of the map isn't accessible to create boundaries.

Jeezus, RDR is way ******** bigger than SA. Creep, you are in such a state of denial, im starting to think you're just trollin'

JESUS CHRIST, THANK YOU... Not Jesus, GeneMope for pointing out the obvious.

Also, thanks DMan for pointing out the obvious.

BTW, what part of RDR isn't accessible?? Besides some buildings, steep cliffs, etc. What about all the buildings in SA (Los Santos, SF & LV) that you can't access??? It works both ways..

I really can't fathom how anyone that has played RDR can say that its smaller than SA.. Its comical to me, SA is not that big of a map.. All you SA cheerleaders can't comprehend that notion.

This is probably fake, but there's a map "leak" that was circulating for a while before this info even came out and they've done a size comparison on it with GTAIV's map.

I don't know if this constitutes as bigger than GTAIV, RDR, and SA put together though. Like I said it's probably fake but take a look anyway.

Nicely done, the way its layed out kind of corresponds with some shots in the trailer and screens, but i think its probably a fake. I don't see why R* would stick with the same type of rendering as SA (colors, shapes, etc.), it would look pretty dated, like this map does.

I'm willing to bet that when you pull up the map in GTA V it'll look much different, just a hunch.

What's interesting is that an analysis was done by someone on GTAForums using the trailer and some pics and this is the relative look of the map they came up with:

You can read the entire topic here:

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=491242

When you compare that to the map I linked earlier you sort of see that it's very similar. I don't know though.. I think it's probably fake but it does have some merit to it when you look at some of the clues. And you're probably right about the look of it being outdated but it could have been an early build or something that was leaked. I think we'll certainly find out though in the next batch of information what it'll look like.

You are greatly over representing the size of RDR. Of course it feels big, it is quite large, and it's specifically designed to feel even larger. SA is spread across a larger area, and is probably still bigger in terms of land mass.

Here is an accurate map comparison:
