Why do these games even bother with the story?!?

okay lets see what i and most people i know do after they buy a gta title

1. they complete the story (lets say 8 hours long)

2. free roam.....much much more than that

...i have spent about 200 hours playing san andreas and maybe 16 of those where the actual story line

all these insult that are being thrown at TC are just ridiculous

I loved GTA IV's story. and before someone jumps on me no i'm not saying it was great or best ever! just that I liked it. it's a big part of what I remember in the game so I in the most polite way disagree. don't think i'd buy Gta 5 if they did away with story.

A standard GTA has a story that lasts from 25-30 hours. The story provides so much for you to do, ignoring it would be stupid.

I always just do what I feel like. Missions, side missions, random stuff, activities, hanging with friends, etc. I do all the other stuff between story missions. I think the story's a bit more important than the gameplay. I wouldn't get a R* game without their great character-driven stories.

You are exactly the sort of GTA player I've always assumed you are. 'Nuff said.

are you guys honestly trying to tell me that you spend more time doing the story then you do free roaming/experimenting/messing around?

By doing the story we're able to do both of those things at once. So why not?
