What made GTA4 just not as playable as the others?

GTA IV felt like SA did to me.

Sure, you got a huge area to explore but the characters were just totally unrelatable to the point that I just didn't care about them, they had no redeeming features or character traits and the plot itself just wasn't engaging at all.

Or vice versa,
GTA4 I feel like it was lacking something. But, I dont know what, can anyone explain ?
And how are the expansions (Gay Tony and THe biker one)?

I feel like GTAV will be way better because the different environments that they offer.
GTA4 just seemed like Big city, Puerto rican ghetto projects, and thats about it..

The missions were kind of repetitive and boring, they took out the planes, they made the map a lot smaller, there were fewer side missions, etc...

Overall, they basically just took a bunch of the cool things SA had and released another GTA game in order to make a lot of money with a new game. I really think that GTA IV was the most dishonest, unscrupulous attempt from Rockstar and it really made me lose faith in the company.

customization was a big thing for me. not only thing but it made 4 not as enjoyable.

San andreas had it where you can get fat/built, mix and match all types of clothes. get tattooes, hair cuts, masks.

Bout the only customization 4 had was do you want a gray suit or a white suit..

and this is my opinion but SA's map was way better.

You don't spend 4 years developing a new engine, learning how to work with new physics and AI, just to make a quick buck. Sorry. You just sound like someone throwing s fit because something wasn't what they wanted.

GTA IV lacked:
- Entertaining storyline (Most missions seemed to be repetitive)
- Interesting characters
- Things to do (Can't think of many side missions aside Vigilante)
- Customization!!! (Cars, clothes, gym)
- Map variety (Just a plain old city, New Jersey is misrepresented too)
- Few decent weapons
- No property to be purchased

GTA SA had:
- VERY entertaining storyline (I have fully completed each mission 15-20x)
---> Black Project, Casino heist, etc
- Wide variety of things to do
----> Gang wars, schools, trucking missions, etc
- Wide variety of characters (Caesar, Wu Zi, Mike Toreno, Sweet, betrayal by Rider and Big Smoke, etc)
- Customization (Gym, Cars, Clothes, you name it)
- Subways, bicycles, cars, boats, helis, planes, attack choppers, swimming, jet packs
- Property purchasing
- Map variety (Country, desert, city with unique weather)
-----> Ghettos, upper class areas, hill billies, etc
- Weapon variety

I honestly have NO idea how anyone could possibly prefer GTA IV over SA.

THIS^^^^^ So much.

GTA 4 was fun until you realise just how much it lacks EVERYTHING!!

Too many gimmicks

Gimmicks? You mean like jetpacks, valet and train missions, tap-button gyms, that glitchy-ass turf defense mode, et cetera et cetera?

smaller map, less things to do after beating the story, lame coppers that spawned everywhere, fewer weapons

You know I really hate when people try to act like the cops on San Andreas didn't spawn at every corner when you were being chased. I absolutely hate the fact that in San Andreas and every GTA before it, getting 2 or more stars meant you had to either pick up a bribe or hit the Pay N Spray. I'm an advid fan or the new police system. I can actually escape a 3 star wanted level and don't have cops magically appearing behind me when I look behind my car.

In my opinion, IV was just as fun, if not more, than every other GTA to date. The story was realistic, the characters felt real, there could have been more content but there was still plenty. I had no beefs with IV. It was an awesome game. I had no desire to play any other GTA until I heard they were releasing San Andreas on the PS3. And honestly, going from IV to SA is like going from HD to Standard definition. Yeah SA is fun and all, but after being spoiled on HD graphics, Euphoria physics, and everything else IV did different, I just don't have as much fun with it as I did 9 years ago. Unless I'm playing the game on PC with all my mods, I don't even touch SA where as I still play IV. Again though, that's just my opinion.
