PATCH #2: Multiplayer: Xbox Live and System Link games are supported. Split screen is supported. Topology Total Miner uses a hybrid topology. Player movements are handled by a Peer to Peer topology. This increases the bandwidth load for Clients, but importantly it reduces the bandwidth load for the Server. The Server has a lot to do, so any reduction in it's bandwidth is important. Mining or Placing blocks uses a Client / Server topology. The Server maintains the real map. If a Client mines or places of a block, the action is sent to the Server, verified and then if its valid, all Clients are sent confirmation of the change. Chests: If Clients place items into chests, or remove items from chests, the action must first be verified by the Server. Confirmation is sent back to all Clients. Furnaces: Smelting is handled by the Server. Transfer of items works the same way as chests. Rope: Rope uncoiling/coiling is handled by the Server. Trees: Tree spawning and leaf despawning is handled by the Server. Cave Ins, Drops, Pickups are handled by the Server. Lobby screen: The lobby screen is coming along. Local players can now also join the session and split screen will automatically start when the game loads. Local players can leave the lobby by signing out. (XNA restriction). If the Host leaves the Lobby, the session is correctly ended and all other players exit the Lobby. In Game All players, local and remote are seen by all other players. All players can move around freely. All players can mine and place blocks freely and the changes are seen by all other players as they happen. WIP Smooth out remote player movement. Clients to send blast requests to the Server for handling. Add a Lag Slider that will allow players to reduce lag if their system is not coping. Player Invites Join a game in progress Finish Player Kicking Show Remote player tool in hand. Testing We have run a test with 8 players. There was some lag, sometimes quite bad, but the results were promising considering we have done zero optimization. We believe lag free (or at least minimal lag) 8 player games will be possible after optimization. We even dare hope for more than 8 players. CONTINUED> New Game Mode: Survival Surface area 15 x bigger than Dig Deep. Day / Night cycle. Dangerous Mobs come out at night. Crafting. No blueprints, all items are craftable from the start. Cave systems. Resources must be mined. All the rocks and ores from Dig Deep are found underground. Beds can be used to sleep through the night. And quite a bit more to be announced. Miscellaneous Changes: Added block picking to Dig Deep. But not stock up. Fill/Clear creative tool enabled. Add option to Creative Mode to toggle block pickups on/off. New Blocks Locked Chests: These chests will be locked to the gamertag that places them. Only that gamer can open/break them. In MP, if a guest places a locked chest, the host cannot open it, but the host can break it. Wool. Beds.
