Why are comeback mechanics acceptable in fighting games?

MvC3 have an even more unforgiving Oki game (one of the most unforgiving ever) so it would have been even worse without X Factor.

That explains why MVC2 never took off in the FGC!

So you're telling me that people would rather lose? In a competitive situation with money on the line, you're telling me that people would rather have Pandora as a comeback mechanic than XF?

Ummm...

In a competitive situation with money on the line (no idea why this is being used as a basis for a game in general, but), why would you choose an instant crack factor which can turn the tables at any moment over something that you can essentially count out? Unless you're just sure you're a worse player than the other person for some reason. Anyone with a brain would choose Pandora because then it's essentially a normal game.

Well Tweet Justin Wong and FChamp and see which one they'd pick then.

Yeah, no. I'm not the one that came up with that hypothetical.

MvC2 has even more derp Oki nonsense than MvC3, but it's a lot harder to one touch kill in MvC2 so that game doesn't need X Factor that much. Without X Factor in MvC3 all games will be reduced to one hit = win a match stuff.

The point is, we all know X-Factor is stupid. But like Noizy says, it's not an instant win button, you still have to do SOME work to win. If it bugs you that much then don't play MvC3.

Because combos are never dropped, and incoming mixups are never blocked, right?

Evidently it doesn't bug anyone that much. Still enough to complain about how dumb it is though. If it bugs you that much, don't read the complaints.

In my experience, a vast majority of the people I've seen that like x-factor/ultras/comeback mechanics of that effect: well, their first fighting game that they actually got into was SF4. Comeback mechanics are natural to them. This isn't a knock to them. It's just what they're used to.

Now, I certainly don't like them (I think P4A's Awakening is a balanced comeback mechanic actually), but they're in the fighting games I enjoy playing so I accept them. I think this is the approach that the pros take to it. I can't see, and haven't seen, anyone well known in the fighting game community actually praise x-factor from a competitive design standpoint.

I'm of the notion that you shouldn't get rewarded so greatly for being outplayed. There should be no get out of jail free cards. It doesn't matter if both players have access to it. It's designed to be of much greater benefit to the player who is being outplayed initially. And that's just backwards to me.

But again, we all know its terrible. But as stupid as it is, just accept that it's in the game and that won't change so take advantage of it

I don't like people making excuses for getting their asses handed to them. That's all.

And just to clarify im not talking like im better, i have no idea how good you are and I'm pretty crappy, but i dont lose because of XF i lose cuz i suck.
