Chat log with Activision customer support regarding freezing

#1PineconnPosted 11/10/2011 3:36:26 AM
Anyway, I have been enjoying MW3 for the Wii
...until it froze and corrupted the entire MW3 save data.
I was curious if there was any way to restore this data or my online progress.

Let me look into this for you.

By the way, this seems to be a very common issue on the Wii -- I've heard of people losing their data due to Wii freezes, and I was really hoping this wouldn't happen to me. Unfortunately, it did a few hours ago. When loading the game back up, it prompts me to delete my corrupt data (which I have not done yet).

I believe that may be the only option for you.
I'm looking through our KnowledgeBase, and I can't find any specific work-arounds for this that wouldn't involve deleting the corrupted data

Do you know if my online progress is included in this save data?

I'm not sure. I believe online multiplayer info is saved on the Infinity Ward servers.

Obviously deleting the data would force me to create a new profile, but I was curious if my old profile could somehow be restored. (Kind of a longshot, I know.)

Specific challenges may have been stored on your console, but the rank and stats I believe are stored on servers.

So, it sounds like I might be out of luck.
I don't suppose I would be able to contact the developers about this?
If anything, they need to be notified about this issue. It's been happening often since the release just two days ago.

About this specific problem? They automatically pull these reported incidents of it, and track them that way.

Ah, okay.
Darn. Well... Do you suggest that I start over and just wait until a patch is released?
It doesn't sound promising that there is any way to sync my old online profile to a new one.

It may work, but I'm not sure.
Is there any way to recover a Wii Ally Code?

I know mine.

I mean like, re-download it from the Nintendo Cloud? I'm not too familiar with the Wii, so I don't know exactly how it works.

I don't think they have a service like that, unfortunately.
The Wii's online system is very limited, and any kind of manipulation like that would have to come from an Activision, IW, or Treyarch specialist.
(I want to say Treyarch did the Wii version, not sure...)

Hmm, I'm not too sure. I think just starting over is all you can do. I'm gonna make sure I tag this so the developers catch it, and hopefully they can make a patch for this so it doesn't happen again.

tl;dr: He knew nothing, and didn't really feel like trying to see if you can restore your old profile. Douche.

Dude, sorry you had to start over. How crappy. I made a backup before I played yesterday and will probably do so every time I get on. It doesn't take long. The only thing I don't know is whether the backup will actually work. I'm not positive how to test that. Perhaps save the file, play a few games so your new save has more info, delete the new save, copy in the old save and see if you go right back to where you were. I think I might try that, just to be sure.

You only need 1 backup save file, it doesnt need to be updated because your data is stored on their servers. I can 100% confirm this as I recovered my save file this way today.
