Anyways while Bronies....or Brony....whatever, have some members who tend to have a very bad habit of bringing the friggin horses into everything they (some) anti-bronies are just as immature. I mean really, calling someone a "non-practicing homosexual" or alluding they are into bestiality? Thats middle school maturity at best.
Also there is a point that things can be over simplified to looking bad.

Main character realizes the crime is not mundane.
Main character calls the friendly neighborhood werewolf/big bad wolf....whatever about it, finds out its name, looks it up in the book(this can be reversed in order)
Deals with the monster.
Repeat in next episode.
Same can be done with Psych, Burn Notice, White Collar, etc.
At the end of the day people watch what they enjoy, watching Dexter doesn't mean I'm a serial killer, playing GTA doesn't mean people want to break the law, and watching ponies doesn't mean bronies want to shag small horses. This can be applied to anything in general.
All this means is either someone at Gearbox apparently likes the show, or wanted to make a pop culture reference.

Sure, if you disregard half the plot. Which mainly showed up around....episode 7 or 10 or around there. But someone could easily cite the beginning episodes and devalue the show because its over arching really hadn't shown up yet.
