Is there any other game where cheating is as common as in BL2?

Regarding the practice of duping...I'm hosting a co op game, party kills a boss that drops a legendary gun that is extremely hard to get and everyone needs/wants the gun. I'm duping it and how exactly does that affect anyone else playing this game?

I always take steroids before popping in BL2.

Push X to open container? How about smash X with my rippling thumb muscles!

Steroids and gaming ftw! Cheating....pft

its only cheating if yer playing against other people.

What? No.

If you're playing Contra alone and put in the CHEAT code, even if you're playing by yourself you're cheating.

that's not cheating. that's using a cheat.

big difference there.

when the game maker puts it in the game, it's in the game.

anyone who was around for borderlands knows it's in the game.

Dodge ball and freeze tag are full of cheaters.

Or maybe I'm a sore loser.

Probably the second one.

Not at all. And I've seen plenty of cheating in many varieties. But normally the cheating is frowned upon by the community overall which is not the case in borderlands. It's widely accepted in this community.

I think the head-drop scenario that WorldWarBeast brought up is a key example of how this game has some ass-backwards protocols.

You want that rare custom head? You farm the same enemy for hours on end. To maximize your success rates, you need co-op partners since the more people in the game translates into better drop-rates for the rare stuff. So you've got four people all going after the same objective for hours on end.

The problem with the duping thing isn't that it's duplicating... the problem is that it's so damn easy to do so. This stems from the fact that the game really urges you to band together to get the awesome equipment, but keeps MMO-level drop-rates... so when that one super-rare item drops... those gangs of vault-hunters would rather be like: "Hey, let's make magical copies of this crap since it's an easy two-step risk-free process!" rather than have the gang split up due to infighting over who gets the fancy cat ears for their siren.

I think the main thing I dislike about duping is the lack of variety it causes. Half of the fun stems from getting different versions of the same gun... comparing and contrasting with your friends, etc. Farming for multiple legendary drops and then pooling loot to figure out who wants/gets what.

I've given a friend of mine my copy of Conference Call because I ****ing hate scopes on my shotguns, in exchange for something else cool. That bartering and trade is a really fun part of the game for me. When loot is fast and easy to replicate a lot of that charm goes out the window.

To answer your question TC, Pokemon.

They also get butthurt if you call it what it is, cheating, despite RNG abuse requiring a bloody computer with specialised programs to pull off. Some of them even deny pokegen being cheating, as "they make pokemon legal within the limits of the game"

Cheaters piss me off mildly, unless it's purely a single player game, but cheaters who actually convince themselves that they're not cheaters is a special kind of deluded Bellendery which I abhor. If you're gonna be a scumbag, be a scumbag, fine, but don't pretend you're anything else but.

Someone has teen angst and misdirected over proportioned anger.

Nope, Anger is healthy, it actually makes you happy, and cheaters are scumbags. And would people stop saying "it doesn't effect you", neither do Neo-Nazi's, but I hate the ass off of them.

Now I'm not comparing cheaters to Nazi's, I wouldn't insult Nazi's that bad (joking) And I suppose dupers aren't THAT bad, they just want the guns I suppose, but...
I find something wrong with people that use Bee + Conference Call, I dislike that kind of person, the way I dislike a Black Eyed Peas fan, or a Creationist. They're exactly the same as a BL1 Modder. They spend 60 Quid on a game about shooting and looting, and cut the looting part out by getting the metaphorical "Infinity +1 Sword". that's not the kind of person I like. They then go through their pplaythrough 2, 1 shotting everyone, not to advance the story, they've done the story, it's old news to them, not to do anything, just... Why? How sad is it that you play a game which has the appeal of always hoping for a better gun due to random gun generation, then cut that aspect out.

They turn Shoot and Loot into Shoot and Win. They're the pimple on the ass of the hand holding generation of gaming. "BUT WHAT IF I DIE I MIGHT FEEL SAAAD" "OMG PLEASE DON'T LET ME DIE" go play that Mario Wii game that completes levels for you you sad, sad person.

Rant over, all opinion of course, yadda yadda, I suppose duping level 50 is alright, I mean, once you've kiled terra and Verm a few times legit you're just grinding, but it's still cheating in every sense of the word.
And so what if Gearbox are okay with it? Gearbox is okay with cheating, but it's still cheating.

If the internet were around when people were cheating on the NES and s***, there would have been an uproar.

Simple as that.
