What happened to the Current vault hunters (spoilers but not really)

At the start of the game the train blows up and you're left alive some how. What I've been wondering what happens to the others that are featured. Like if you select maya what happens to Salvador, Axton, and zero. Do they die or are they thrown anywhere else?

They don't really throw in any sort of information about it but personally the way I intrepret it is when claptrap says he looted the echo comm off the dead body I like to think that maybe they were the ones that the echo comms were looted off of.

I assume for canon that they are all alive. The end credits show all of them together. I do however, find it weird in the game they refer to you as a singular vault hunter.

I kinda thought that they survived but the beginning seems really inconsistent with them surviving.

The way it works in most games with four carecters.. U play as the whole group, even tho you cant see them, the whole group is the story line

All the "Wanted" posters were up for them, so I'm guessing they're still alive.
