Game KEEPS CRASHING after like 10-30 minutes of gameplay.

Hi, I play HOM3 but... it keeps crashing after about 20ish or less minutes of gameplay... good thing for autosave, but just saying this is bull crap... it just keeps crashing, my specs are fine, it crashes like it makes the sound the game was playing while it dumps to the desktop and says Hom3 has encountered an error and has to close... I don't get it.

I have this problem on Vista too, but it's not quite that frequent. I'm not sure what's causing it.

If you set the icon to "run as administrator" it helps. Game will still crash every now and then but at least it makes it playable. I'm assuming your OS is indeed Vista.

Interesting idea, I guess I'll see if that helps.

As I said though, it's not very common for me.

Are you using a laptop?

Yeah, would that matter?

Apart from the fact that it crashed the game once because it ran out of batteries.

If you're using settings that attempt to maximize battery life, it is far more prone to crashing.

I usually use max performance when plugged in, max battery when not.

Maybe the crashes were happening when it wasn't plugged in. I haven't had it happen in weeks now, though.

I solved this problem on my laptop, it is a Vista compatibility problem with Heroes of Might and Magic III.

The game, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete, used to crash on me every 10 to 20 minutes.

I left-clicked on the game's launch icon and set the compatibility mode to Windows 2000. After that, the game has been running fine.

As a side note, I have a widescreen laptop with Windows Vista 64 bit. I have set my Graphic card software to play video with the aspect ratio preserved, not stretched. I found that setting in application suite that comes with the Graphics card, and the graphics look fantastic.

I also have fixed Diablo 2 on my system. There is a patch for it, to make it compatible with Vista, on the Blizzard website. You have to find it, download it, and install it manually. Now, Diablo 2 is working fine too. Using your graphics software to preserve the aspect ratio makes this game look much better too.
