Level 9 - Bad Design :-(

#1AgarwelPosted 4/25/2012 4:38:03 AM

So I just got to the end to the level 9. And to solve to puzzle I need rock and skull? I really liked the puzzles before. But this on is just poor design choice :-( These are just common item. And there is no reason to pick rocks at this stage (there are better throwind weapons and lots of garbage to put on preassure plates) and no reason to keep skulls (I do not have minotaur with appropriate perk in my party).

So the only solution is to backtrack the dungeons a look where I dropped all my rocks before and for same skulls (which are rare)? It basically took my interest for the game :-/ This is not a fun :-/

All the items required for the puzzle are given to you on level 9. Jesus.

Lazy players do not equal bad level design.

Skulls are not found on level 9.

A Skull is found on Level 8.

Just a little bit of backtracking to do. So just do it and move on. I don't know what you're whining about.

Man, I even had all the items and I still think puzzles like this are lame. If you were trying to play the game through without looking anything up online, all of a sudden you might have to just start retracing your steps to try to find a skull you never bothered to pick up. That's not fun. That's not mentally challenging. It's just tedious and frustrating.

Christ, I get that fanboys want to defend a game they have fun with, but it's allowed to have flaws. Even the best games have flaws. Not acknowledging them is silly.

Grimrock has plenty of flaws. The puzzle under discussion just doesn't happen to be one of them. It's a perfectly fine puzzle, and none of the items it requires are in any way hard to get from the location of the puzzle. It's not like it requires you to bring an item with no stats on it all the way from level 2 or something.

What I hated about the puzzle was that I accidentally left one of my skulls there, and had to come back for it later so my minotaur could be his normal beastly self.

Hahaha, you don't make sure to keep at least one of everything, and then complain it's the game's fault?

Really?

Grimrock is already exceptionally easy and casual. It's impossible to get lost and every puzzle is mind-numbingly easy.

This was the point I almost gave up too - I'd got rid of the two skulls I'd already found as I could see no use for them, and the one of level 8 was left where it was because it's in that awful room with all those enemies (and if the other two I'd found had no use by that point, why would I take a third?).

I've got no problems with getting stuck because I can't figure something out, but I do have a problem with getting stuck because I can't see into the future.

The design was based on the default party (inc. a minotaur with Head Hunter). You obviously opted for something different. Not the designers fault.
