aburame13Posted 4/6/2012 10:43:22 PM | Why allow the player to name the MC if they're just going to eventually give him an official name anyway? I've always wondered this. --- "Why eat? You're just going to **** it out later." -Just_a_loser |
jazzmeister0Posted 4/6/2012 10:47:50 PM | Probably so that the player could feel more comfortable and to enhance the experience that the game could give to the player. Since Persona series doesn't allow us to create our own character, the least the programmers did would have been to allow us to give the MC a name that we thought of.
The official name is just for the anime and manga since readers and watchers can't personalize their own versions. It is still unclear though, which is the more official name. Souji Seta or Yu Narukami? |
SazukeEXPosted 4/6/2012 10:50:41 PM | Because your decisions and the ending you get isn't the same as Yu's. --- XBox Live: Tinklyknight (Not Gold at the moment due to various reasons) |

No this is pretty clear.
Souji Seta was never official in any capacity, it's just the name that the Mangaka chose. Yu is being used in the upcoming P4:Arena game, which is a canon continuation of the story. --- Would have liked to run tests on the sea shells. |

I dunno if it's just me, but I think it's lame that they chose to continue the story with a freaking fighting game... --- "Why eat? You're just going to **** it out later." -Just_a_loser |
SunladisPosted 4/7/2012 12:05:28 AM | I just think of P4A as a side-story, not a "true" continuation of the game. --- The average intelligence of a fandom is inversely proportional to its size. |
Doru_DinnPosted 4/7/2012 12:22:00 AM | It's probably just used to foreshadow a couple minor story elements in 5, and be completely awesome.
Also they totally made a megaten-worthy fighting game boss elizabeth. It's like they multiplied her damage by the soulcalibur mechanics, and gave her the 9999 megidolaon instant kill. No joke. |

As long as you don't try to claim it's non-canon, I don't care how you think of it.
And anyway, TC, how is it any different from a majority of other RPGs out there? Whether it's Ramza or Zidane, it's hardly uncommon to be able to give names to characters that already have names.
Heck, in a lot of them you could name every character, not just the protagonist. --- Don't forget to check out my MegaTen themed webcomics at http://www.drunkduck.com/user/Strain42/ |

Strain42Posted 4/7/2012 4:50:19 PM | Yes, yes I did. That's why I used them as examples. They're some of the only FF games I like.
