Is this going to be anyone else's first Persona game?

I've never played a Persona game and I think this'll be my first unless the Persona games go on sale again. Would 4 be a good place to start?

Four is a fine place to start, but if you already have a Vita, you could pick up Persona 3 Portable digitally for it and start with that one (you don't need to play 3 first, but there are a small couple jokes, references, cameos that might make more sense if you do)

Also just remember that if you do play 4 and love it, 1 and 2 are VERY different, so if you ever get the urge to go check out the earlier titles, don't expect them to be anything like the one you're playing.

I was actually thinking about getting 3 because I loved how they shot themselves to summon the personas (is this correct?)

This seems the best place to start. This and PS3P. They have many quality of life changes and are headed in a direction of removing things that frustrate newer players to the series. Some hardcores here mght give you flake but ignore them, they just can't get with the times and see the direction the Persona series is headed from here on out.

FES is better than P3P, particularly if you just want to play the original story. The only thing P3P improved was adding control of your other party members.

And the ability to play as a girl.

Some like it, some don't really care.

I meant in the original story. FeMC was a great addition, but it doesn't matter for your first play-through.

I only suggested P3P because if this person is gonna play Golden, it's safe to assume they have/are going to have a Vita where they can download P3P with ease.

While I have no reason to assume they already own a PS2 to play FES on (or a PS3 since it's on the PSN store now)

I loved how they shot themselves to summon the personas (is this correct?)

And yes, this is true. They use a gun like device to summon their Persona in P3.

I disagree. I love skillcards because I have horrible luck with rolling. In nocturne I once got two fusion accidents consecutively while trying to fuse odin. Slime. Both times.

Funny thing, it retains the skills I inherited for on odin. That might have been another fusion accident in another game though. Which one does that?
