What does the Persona button do for your partners?

I saw a couple videos on youtube and I saw the persona button highlighted for your partners. For those who have the game what does it do?

Still waiting for it to come in the mail, but someone had mentioned that when characters still have their initial Personas, it lets you check the stats of that person's Persona. That's all I know so far.

We know that everyone's getting a new updated Persona - At first we assumed it was a third tier evolution. Eventually, someone noticed that the Persona option isn't greyed out for your teammates, so some people here suggested that perhaps the other teammates can in fact switch Personae it battle, between their original lv.2 Personae and their new Personae. Still unknown, though.
