Yes. If you get a warning before opening a chest or hear chains rattling... DONT open the chest. That's it, enjoy Persona 4. You have 1 year. Fail and face erasure.

Don't worry about getting all social links maxed on your first playthrough. It's way more trouble than it's worth, and it's a LOT easier on subsequent playthroughs. Just focus on whichever characters you like, especially your party members, as those social links provide benefits in battle (as well as evolving their personas).

Play blind. No walkthroughs, enjoy the story as it is.

Don't worry, the game will tell you when you reach the end game critical point

I'm not concerned with the ending and more with what to prioritize and missable events or items etc.

So any chests that rattle or warn you are bad!? Is there not any beneficial things from these?

if you win the fight you get the ultimate weapons, armor, and accessory(one item per victory, weapons are randomized by who is in your party and I'm pretty sure you can only get one per character)

There's only your death in them until later in the game.
