was it Makarakarn or Tetrakarn, the one FAQ i looked at said Tetrakarn but I SWEAR my Naoto had that skill at some point.

You can grow corn in your garden--I think normally you'll get one "tetracorn" and one "makaracorn" each time you harvest.
